Leica Disto D3a shows ERROR 220

The disto doesn't show a preview/aiming red dot. Only on the 2nd press of the DIST button does the dot show, just before taking the measurement. Then intermittently I get ERROR 220 displayed which requires the disto to be turned off and back on again. (Clear/off doesn't work). Please help.

I had this exactl problem and resolved it by replacing the batteries

    Thanks. I was using rechargeable batteries. I'll put in new ones and try that.

    exact the same here with X310, changing for new batt. does not help for me....

    Instead of sending back the unit for repair, as suggested by the user manual, I just replaced the batteries (even using rechargeable ones, 1.2V instead of 1.5V), and my unit is working again. Measuring the old batteries proved them to be dead. The manual should be repaired !

What does error 270 mean?
There is no error code 270 listed for a Leica Digital DISTO D3a 100M Laser Distance Meter.
Are you sure that's the code?
Or do you have a different make or model of laser distance meter?

Have a Leica Disto basic and need to know how to change measurement from m to ft.
Press and hold the circle button down, after a few seconds it will flash 'beep on/off', dont stop holding it down, it will then cycle to 'units', press +/- to change between metric and imperial, then press the = button to store. If you keep holding it down you can set the reference pont (where the measurement is taken from, the back, middle or front edge of the machine) add an offset (add take away from the displayed dimension), and you can also reset the machine.

Press the power up button, ok. Press the DIST button once, it shows the laser spot...OK. Press a second time the DIST button and the unit is powering off! same thing all over again...it will not take...
Did you ever find a fix for this? My Leica Disto A5 is doing exactly the same thing!

I have no manual, how do I get the distance number to appear?
You can download a manual at http://distagage.com/downloads.html

but simply, to get the distance to appear, turn on the unit with the large red ON/DIST button, aim the red laser dot at your desired target, and press the ON/DIST button again. The distance will appear on the display screen.

Disto A3 - problem acquiring readings over 3-4m
A short rectangular "dot" is normal, a 255 error indicates that you are not getting enough reflection back to the optics. This may be due to the surface you are aiming at. Try placing a piece of white paper over the surface, if it does not measure 30 or 40 meters to a sheet of white paper, indoors, and the optics are clean, I'd contact your dealer to initiate a warranty claim. 3 or 4 meters should not be a problem unless the surface is very rough, such as dirt or sand, or very dark color.
If you just bought the unit from a licensed distributor, you should have at least a two year warranty, possibly 3 years.
