SOURCE: dell latitude c840 won't boot up, battery light

I think the battery may not be compatible with your laptop per my experience. There is a replacement battery that will fix the compatibility issue from: http://www.brilliantstore.com/dell_laptop_batteries_dekcell_bl_5402.html

Head phone jack faulty

hashmi903,
To fix the head phone jack on a system you would need to replace the sound card or the motherboard where the headphone jack is soldered onto the board. You could send it back to Dell for repairs or contact your local computer repair shop for repairs.

My headphone jack is broken on my Dell Latitude Cpx J & i have no sound through my speakers because of this. Is their a way i can change something in the settings so the sound plays through my laptop...

It is a mecanical problem, not in settings. The laptop's headphone jacks have builted-in switches that disconnect internal speackers when the headphone jack is plugged in. You need to replase headphone jack with a new one or manually desactivate the swith - must to get ino your laptop and have skills in work with soldiering iron

Dell latitude c840 slows same time fans come on, approx. 4-5 minutes after start-up. Ran laptop in cool, not cold environment; no noticable improvement.

have the unit cleaned out good...if problem still exist your laptop may be on its way out

the slow down is due to a drop in power available to the processor, and this can damage it beyond repair.

My dell latitude C840 is not bringing out voice again

I figure there are two possibilities here. First, there is an Fn function on the keyboard that will enable/disable the speakers on command. This function is shared with the "End" key at the upper right of the keyboard, and is used in conjunction with the "Fn" key, found next to the left "Ctrl"key. Holding down the "Fn" key while pressing the "End" key will toggle the speakers on or off. Second, there is the possibility that the headphone jack has been physically damaged while the headphones were plugged into it. That jack has internal switches that disconnect the speakers while headphones are in use. If the jack is damaged, the speakers will not operate. Unfortunately, most repair shops are not equipped to replace this jack, and the jack itself is nearly impossible to buy for replacement anyway. Hopefully your problem is just the "Fn" key.
