How do I remove the back of this watch?

Robert,A hammer works, not well, but it works! The caseback on your watch is installed/removed in several different ways. Some are a 'snap back' where pressure is applied and the back snaps in. Some are 'screw backs' and require a special tool to remove them, sorry, no substitutes for the special tool here. There are others as well and some watches look like they have a back but don't. The parts come out of the top instead. There is no substitute for the 'proper' tool. Don't hit your thumb with the hammer!

The watch you're talking about has a snap on case back. They make special tools to remove them but any sturdy, thin piece of metal should work to pry it off. The trick will be to get it to go back on. That can be very difficult and you may need a special press to get it back on. If that is the case, I'd take it to a jewler and have them doo it.

Hi Susan, most Watches will require a tool to remove the back, some use a knife like tool, and some use an adjustable key type tool to fit the slots of the watch cover, so that you can unscrew the back off. Sometimes you can use a thin knife too, be very careful not to cut yourself, and also not to damage the rubber gasket. The gasket sometimes will need replacement on some watches if they are waterproof. I recommend having a watch expert look at it if you feel you can't do this yourself.

mcdevito75 here, A special tool may be needed to press the back cover back onto your watch, no one can tell until the back cover is removed, this could be the case with your watch, if so, you"ll have a problem. BEST BET, look for a small watch repair shop in your area, the cost will be the same if you need this mentioned tool and anyway, the battery change is once a year or even longer

mcdevito75 here, You"d need a special tool available on ebay called a link remover tool. But for fastest remedy and just about the same cost as buying and shipping the special tool, unless your going to do a few watches, your best bet is to look for a small watch repair shop in your area to remove these links, hold onto them just in case you need them later.

Most watches have some sort of adjustment but I would advise you to take it to a Timex dealer as removing the back can cause problems (particularly with the waterproofing seal).

Also, I could not see the back of the watch in the catalogue but many watches need special tools to remove the back.

I suggest that you take it to a watch shop. Removing the glass is not a good idea, as the seal will be effected. Watches are made to be accessible from the back but special tools may be required.

All in all, it is safer to leave it to those who have all the special tools and experience.

If you are shure that your watch has a removable caseback then you have to use special case opening tool (looks like knife with very short and curved blade). Insert blade into the groove and applying great and steady pressure turn the opener upwards. The back should come off. Make sure the blade doesn't slip, oterwise you will damage the movement.
As your watch model is obsolete, I compared it to MQ24-7BLL and find that this movement should be opened from the front- First the glass must be removed, then stem with crown and then movement itself. In this case you will not be able to do it yourself as special tool for removing glass is needed. If you will try it anyway, you will end up with snapped glass as it is set with great pressure to make case water resistant.
