It seems to be tuning right off then on, sometimes for a few seconds only the backlight is lit other times just black, but it all starts out with the picture starts to pixel-ate(sp)

Works perfectly whrn back is off with fan blowing so something must be overheating, but not sure what that might be. Anybody??/

Hi Buddy,the caps aren't swelled, could it also be the thermo-paste on the transistors on that same cirquit board? I already decided it WAS that board.?ThanksI have thermal paste, but if your sure, then I won't try that first. Thanks again Buddy. ...Kevin

Hello Kevin,

That type of issue is usually caused by bad filter capacitors on the power supply board. As the capacitors heat up they can't filter the output power correctly so the power supply shuts off to prevent damage. Here is a link to information and parts list of the capacitors neede3d to repair the power board.

Main board...or do a hard reset and that may fix it, you will need to do some digging to get instructions on a hard reset for your set.

Blue screen means no signal detected which if you have audio is strange---How and where on the set is the signal hooked up?

Problem with the Philips Magnavox 32MF231D Television for elderly lady. She stated she thought she heard a pop when it stopped working. The power light comes on for a second when turning it on then goes...

There should be power fail with the TV. Unplug the device, open the cover, open the metal cover and take a careful look over the alimentation board- its that board where the alimentation cable goes. You say she heard a sound, so, there should be or some burned element, or, most probably, a inflated/exploded electrolytic capacitor. You have to change all electolits that are inflated, according to their position and polarisation.

If you are working in the switching power supply and need electrolytic, I would use PANASONIC FM series for very low ESR, High ripple current rating, 105c temp. Get them from www.digikey.com

Hold a flashlight up to the tv while the tv is on. If you see a picture your CFL is burnt out.

An earlier post of the smaller model of this with the same problem said to remove the metal cover over the power supply.

I have the 26MF231D and it worked great afterward (even though you can't mount it)
