I dont think you could fix it yourself. And if you do send it to a specialist I think its going to cost you more than just buying a new one. If you are located in California call JVC service and ask 800-252-5722 I know they charge about $50 just to look and tell you the problem.

maybe your flyback. check b+ on the flyback. If you dont have voltage you can unsolder b+ pin on flyback and feed a 75 watt lamp to verify if power supply or flyback trouble.I think it`s pin 9 on flyback. look for print b+ on pcb.

The street value would be 100-150 dollars. If TV is a cheap model or abused or very used, you should pay less.
Consider a Sony or a Toshiba in tube style since all are cheap now.

Worth taking it in since it is hard to find a new TV for less than $300. I have a 32 inch JVC iart that for about 2 years would turn itself off and the timer light would blink. Only thing that worked would be to disconnect and turn back on. Eventually, the tv "popped" I could smell something that burned out and within 3 weeks tv went "dead" Took it to a tv repair place and replaced power unit for $150. I had similar problem with a 19 inch Philips and that tv has been going strong for 4 years since repair.

The feature you are looking for would is called CC or Closed Captioning. Per your owners manual you would press the menu button, then move up and down to select "CLOSED CAPTION" from the list. Then to edit the feature press left or right. Select CAPTION to on. The manual lists four different types of captioning (C1-C4) and also four different types of "Text" (T1-T4). Usually one of the caption listings will display only when the mute is selected...its just not very clear which one exactly will do it.

One word of warning, you would not want to activate the Text features. This will sometimes have a large black box appear in the middle of your screen providing other information.

Unfortunately JVC does not have a link to your manual on their website, but the manual should be able to be found by entering JVC AV-32120 Manual in a search engine. I would check a few of the results because some maybe free others may ask for a "nominal" fee.
