I followed the FAQ from Samsungs website but it did not help. I suspect it's one of the high voltage transformers. Is that something that I can replace myself and should that be my first step?
The buzzing, hissing, or high-pitched sound you hear coming from your Projection TV is most likely caused by the one of the high voltage (flyback) transformers in the set. These transformers convert the relatively low voltage electricity that comes from the outlet in your home to the high voltage electricity needed to drive the cathode ray tubes in your TV.
You may be able to reduce or eliminate the noise by doing the following:
Resolder the flyback transformer ends. i mean both the red cable ends (red cable which is connected to tube and flyback) , dont do this unless u r tv repair expert. there are killing voltages.
Replacing a flyback is not something I would suggest for anyone with no electronics experience. Second, lets see where the noise is coming from first. Take off the back and listen to the noise. The flyback will be at one end of the large red wires that go to the tubes. Sometimes the connection at the tube is not 100% and the noise comes from there. BE CAREFUL - there are high voltages going through this red wire that can be dangerous even with the set UNPLUGGED!! IF the noise is coming from the connection at the tube, with the set unplugged, carefully turn the rubber cap back and forth touching only the rubber part with one hand. Put the other hand in you pocket while doing this.
If the noise comes from the flyback side, if you can solder, again with the set unplugged, try resoldering the pins on the transformers. That may resolve the problem.
Keep me posted.

Unfortunately the flyback is not the problem. The picture tube is the part with the high voltage storage that can last for years. As long as you only touch the underside of the flyback with a soldering iron, you should be OK. Just be careful. Have you located the source of the noise? Try resoldering the flyback connections and update this with the results.

Hello olfogieo,
This sounds like the IHVT (flyback) is arching and or going bad or the horizontal frequency is changing. you may have to remove the back of the TV and tell me if you see any arching from the flyback. I would not suggest that you attempt to repair this since the high voltages section have voltages that can kill.

Thanks, Dan! Knowing only enough about electrical devices to be dangerous your advise is very welcomed.
A couple of questions:
How long should I leave the set unplugged to insure that the flyback is completly discharged? Also, do you have any suggestions about where I can go on the net to get parts if necessary?
