Electrolysis and lazer treatments are a way of permanently removing hair and now there are some home kits available on the market.

These home kits are not as effective as the ones they use in salons and you have to be very careful to read the instructions as making a mistake can result in serious injury. I would do a lot of research before buying a home machine.

Does anybody have a good hair removal kit? I have been trying to find something for my husband.

You should try the MeSmooth. It is an awesome device I think your husband will like. It works with IPL which is Intense Pulsed Light and radio frequencies that get directed to the base of the follicle. Your husband will be able to adjust the settings, which gives him the ability to change what he needs for different parts of the body, based on sensitivity and the amount of hair in a given area. The system is more comfortable than anything on the market, which is unusual in my experience. It works with all skin tones, which is not the case with all the DIY permanent hair removal products. Lastly, it tends to be less expensive than similar products, which I found attractive. I have one and it is better than I ever imagined (and I have tried EVERYTHING). Cool gift btw.

Is it worth buying a home pregnancy test? How do they work?

Home pregnancy tests are actually quite reliable. They work by detecting
the hormone HCG which is found in both urine and blood. If you have a lab blood
test, it will probably detect pregnancy earlier than a home urine test.

What are some disadvantages of doing electrolysis by yourself at home?

  • It takes a massive time commitment and real dedication.
    • Often greater than getting it done professionally. Let's see-- at an optimal 30 seconds per hair (20 for electrolysis, 10 to remove hair and find next hair and insert probe), even with an optimistic kill ratio, you are quickly into a huge amount of tedious work. One correspondent took 2,000 (!) hours during her first year of at-home electrolysis. That's 20 times more than I did for my first year of professional treatment, and she still had hundreds more hours to do in following years.
  • You have no training.
    • This leads to the next problem...
  • You could cause permanent skin damage.
    • Is saving money more important than your complexion? Or just as bad...
  • You may may not get permanent results due to improper technique.
    • It's not easy. If you don't do it right it won't be permanent. Be sure to read as much as you can before attempting it yourself.
  • Potentially worse temporary side effects
    • Redness and swelling may be worse and last longer than with professional treatment.
  • Potentially longer treatment time and time to completion
    • It may take much longer to treat your own face than to have it done professionally.
  • Some areas are difficult to see/treat by yourself.
    • Working on yourself can be quite awkward, uncomfortable and prone to error. Imagine using your left hand to treat areas hard to reach with right hand. Imagine working under your chin or near your ear while looking into a mirror. Imagine having a friend help you-- do you trust their ability?
  • The more facial hair you have, the more work, and the less your chances for success.
  • Some find it much more painful than professional electrolysis.
  • There are real and hidden costs.
    • Some burned out several of the cheap home units before getting done, and professional equipment may be as expensive as many hours of professional treatment. There's a possibility it would end up costing more than professional electrology if you figure in how much your time is worth. For instance, had the person mentioned above spent her self-treatment time at a part-time job flipping burgers for minimum wage, and then used all the proceeds for professional electrolysis, she would still have had enough money left over for a few outfits.

I am a woman with hair on my upper lip, is it ok to shave it?

No!! it's a terrible idea to shave the hair on your upper lip. It will just grow back stubbly. You can either bleach it or have it removed permanently with electrolysis or laser treatments.

How does electrolysis actually remove hair? I just dont see how it works.

You plug electrolysis machines into the electricity, and then volts of electricity are channeled through the tweezers , which zaps the hair follicle. Usually that follicle is then destroyed and the hair doesn't regrow.

You have to be really careful to follow the instructions carefully in order to avoid skin burn and other injuries.

Is waxing a good option for hair removal at home?

Waxing is a very effective and not overly expensive way to do your own hair removal at home. It leaves a much smoother skin effect than shaving because it pulls the hair out at the root ie from under the layer of the skin, unlike shaving that just chops the hair at skin level.

This interchangeable tweezers device (pat. pending) will do wonders for the way you feel about yourself. When you follow these simple instructions, Emjoi Beauty Forever will rid you of unwanted hair for the long haul! You can decide whether to use the coil-tweezers or the gold-plated tweezers based on these broad criteria:
The coil-tweezers enable you to clean out at a time a multiple number of unwanted hair (most notably, at the bikini line and some facial hair).
The gold-plated tweezers are intended to remove individual unwanted hair (like those on the eyebrow or on the breasts).
To use Emjoi Beauty Forever efficiently, please read carefully the enclosed Instruction Manual and pay a special attention to the following:
Clasp the unwanted hair with the Emjoi Beauty Forever's coil tweezers or gold-plated tweezers. At the same time, press the handle button for 15-20 seconds. The indicator light on the inside panel (near the adapter outlet) lights more brightly and will remain so during the application.
Slide the hair out gently in the direction it grows. If the hair doesn't slide out easily (some hair is more stubborn than other), gently tweeze it out. Even the coarsest hair is removed with a lasting effect by the Emjoi Beauty Forever's unique epilation treatment.
These helpful tips will assure extra-effective epilation!
The shorter the hair, the better the results. Preferably, hair should be no longer than 2-3 mm (1/10 in.)
Your skin should be completely clean before treatment.
To make skin more supple and relaxed, wash with warm water and gently massage.
Make sure no radios, TVs, or cordless phones are operating during treatment since they may interfere with RF transmission.
If a hair remains after 3-4 consecutive treatments, tweeze it. It has been sufficiently treated. There are some hair roots that need more treatments, particularly those that are dark and thick, or near throat, chin, lips, thighs and bikini lines.
