HP Tochsmart DVD-RW drive not playing cd's /dvd's

I'm trying to import cd's for Itunes. When I insert a cd...the pc recognizes the cd or dvd (displays the title to the cd and song names) but won't import. It just sits in the "importing mode"...but doesn't import. If I try to play the cd through "My Computer" on the dvd-rw drive... same thing.... it reads the title and track names...but won't play them.

I have tried multiple cd's and dvd's with no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

does it work as standard DVD drive? can you copy files from cd? install programs from CD?
if not, then it's broken, you can buy the spare part from hp's website and easily swap it with the dedicated latch under the laptop's chassis.

The best player is Video Lan Controller (VLC) is plays everything.
You need the RIP command as you have not a data disk but a multimedia disk (.CDA) file.

I am trying to write to a CD on my Lenovo X61. I

Here's How:
  1. Download Free Easy CD DVD Burner and follow the on-screen directions to install the software.
Note: Free Easy CD DVD Burner is completely free and fully functional. However, there are some accompanying programs that it asks you to install - feel free to decline those if you're not interested. Free Easy CD DVD Burner supports Windows 7, Vista, XP, and 2000.
  2. Insert a blank CD or DVD in your drive.
  3. Open the Free Easy CD DVD Burner program.
  4. Click on the Copy CD/DVD button on the tool bar at the top of the program window.
  5. Under the Action menu on the left, click the Burn an image file link.
  6. When the Select the image file that you want to burn window opens, locate and select the ISO file you wish to burn to the empty disc and then click Open.
  7. A dialog box will appear asking "Do you want to burn [your chosen ISO file]?".
    Click OK to confirm.
The burning process will automatically begin. The time it takes to burn will depend on the size of the ISO file and the speed of both your PC and your CD or DVD burner.
  8. When the burning is complete, the CD or DVD will automatically eject from the drive. You can remove the disc and close Free Easy CD DVD Burner.
  9. If you view the contents of the disc, you might notice many files and folders. So what happened to the ISO file? Remember that the ISO file is just an image of what should be on the CD or DVD. That ISO file contained the information for all of the files you see on the disc.
Tips:
  1. You must have a CD or DVD burner to write ISO files to CDs or DVDs. You will not be able to burn ISO files if you only have a standard CD or DVD drive.
  2. Many ISO files, like some memory testing programs and password recovery tools, are intended to be booted from after they are burned.

Fujitsu Lifebook P1120 Won't Boot To CD\DVD

Fujitsu seems to have secretly added a Hardware black list for Booting USB DVD-rw.CD-rw drives.

I have a Stylistic ST5032D slate.

Your either going to have to buy fujitsu's over priced external drive or buy fujitsu's over priced dock.

Or What I do is Bought WinImage or any other software that allows writing a ISO image to USB flash drive, this should almost always work.

I had to install Windows 7 on my tablet this way.

Choose your poison.

Good Luck.

Installing windows without DVD

The hard disk is not recognized from USB because of SATA drivers not present on XP setup disk.

That happens because the BIOS uses a SATA controller that is not included in Windows XP install disk.

Usually you can solve the problem going to BIOS settings and changing SATA/RAID settings.Check your BIOS settings, and disable SATA RAID mode. This is done in different ways depending on the BIOS.

On HP/Compaq computers for example you press F2 on startup to enter BIOS, then disable SATA mode on bios settings.
On other makes the procedure can be slightly different.

Another way to fix the problem, is by creating your own XP setup disk with SATA drivers included, see:
Resolving "Setup did not find any hard disk drives" during Windows .
