Black Screen but has power.

I have a 7LSP monitor that has gone black after rebooting the system. The power light remains on but blinks every 5 seconds. During these 5 second intervals the screen is faintly visible (Very faintly). I opened it up, but did not see any distended capacitators, but not really sure what I am supposed to be looking for..
Not sure what to do, since I am very much a novice at repair.

1280 x 1024 @75Hz
made 2003 a real relic, gee it ran for 14 long hard years. amazing.

the CCFL tubes are dead , or dim, all CCFL this old are dead.
or weak or intermittent and all are bad.
the background lamps died
in a dim room point flashlight to lcd see, data, bingo for dead CCFL.
the MON will fail on all PC connected to. for sure.
best reso and max is 1280 X 1024 @ 60Hz
it does not do all resolutions below that, see the manual for the few it does,

SOURCE: Monitor problem

You are experiencing an inverter board failure. You will need to replace or repair the inverter. The inverter drives the CCFL lamps that illuminate the screen if the lamps draw to much current or components on the board are overheating it will shut down the backlights. Some monitors have cold solder joints on the toroidal coils of the inverter that causes this problem, very typical with HP monitors, If you are handy with a solder iron you may try just re-soldering board and replacing push-pull transistors for a few more years of use. Provide make and model and I can be more specific about probable cause and solution.

I've had a very similar issue on many Dell Monitors. Mine have been under warranty and they usually send me a new monitor, but I believe the issue lies with the power supply within the monitor.

Sorry to say, but it sounds like you power board is due for an overhaul.
It should be fixable since it does show signs of a little life left in it.
It would have to be taken apart. A visual may tell for sure.
Look for bulging capacitors (canister looking things) This a sign of a typical failure.
Of course, not all capacitors bulge when they go bad. That would make things too simple !!

try looking for bloated caps, check all diodes... see if its not shorted/leaking and finally check the power regulator ic if its not shorted! note: some capacitors and diodes are very tiny, you should use a lens with good amount of light...

if it does not help..... well, what the hell? try pouring some gas, then light it up! that should solve the problem, at least it turned on right? hehehehe!

I defragged my computer, restarted, and now my monitor won't come on. When on button pushed, get a green power light but the monitor stays black - cannot get anything on screen :( Helllllpppp!

Please try booting with your windows DVD and see if you screen loads, on that boot DVD you should see an option to repair install, try that. But if after booting to your DVD you see your screen come up, just try a regular restart again before doing a system repair.

Try a different video card or disconnect the one you have in your PC and use the VGA monitor connection on the motherboard. If it works your video card is gone.

When I play some games on my syncmaster 215tw, the screen goes black after 5 minutes. I have to reboot everytime to get the screen back on. The blue light flashes but i cant do nothing until i reboot....

that means your VGA is not big enough to run the game. This problem is not from the monitor but your system.I suggest an upgrade in your system to enhance better performance.

Black screen

At this point I believe there are failed caps in your monitor.
http://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?p=73310

This is very common in all LCD monitors. Did the tech just push the power switch off and on?
From my experience at fixing broken monitors of all brands, I think it is the power supply problem.

The screen remains black when i turn it on. The power button turns green and blinking but the screen remains black.

try using the Fn + F?key (has a graphic of a monitor)F5 or F7 to switch the system from external monitor to the laptop ... you probably have it in presentation mode for external monitor.

Screen goes black, but power light is on (not blinking)

The problem is not with your screen. Its the problem of Video Card of your system which is unable to send Video Signals to the Screen.

Dell - 17" flat screen

This sounds like the back light is gone on the monitir... to check this look very close at the monitor whet the PC has booted, if you see a VERY dim image on screen then it suggests that the back light is gone.

Many monitors hace a 3 year warranty so I would try a warranty claim before throwing it away
