Unable to reach/maintain heating or especially A.C.

We have had SEVERAL service calls from the RUUD factory authorized dealer/installer. They keep finding excuses as to why the system will not keep-up. Either the auxillary heat comes on too soon, runs too long and still cannot get to desired( 63-65 degree winter 78-81 degrees summer) temp. We keep the house cool in the winter (I can wear a sweater if Ined to), and warm, or not so cold in the summer. They say all the readings and fluids are fine. I am wondering what the chances are of getting a "Factory" rep out here, or would they even sully their hands. These unit are expensive and are only 4 years old and it has been a problem day one. What would it take to even contact the manufacutuer, there is no way on their website. I think this is by design.

Hello Glenn. There are factory reps for Rheem/ Ruud and if the contractor and distributer can't solve your problem then a Rep needs to go to your house and take care of it. What type of Ruud unit do you have? I will need the model number and a description of what you mean by "keeping up". Also what State / Country are you in? Let me know as soon as you can and I'll see if I can help you out.

I am installing an Emerson programmable thermostat. We have a Ruud furnace achiever 90 plus that was installed 14 years ago. The thermostat mentions a power stealing switch.

The Ruud furnace is probably compatible. Power stealing is a way to recharge the thermostat battery from the 24vac control voltage used to operate the furnace. If you install the Thermostat in the "separate power supply mode" it does not need to power steal ever and will be much more reliable. Some thermostats don't get enough power in the power steal mode to keep the battery reliably recharged, especially during the cold winter months because the poiwer available to "power steal" is highest when the furnace is NOT running. You will need a separate 24 vac transformer and some wire.

I have a Xantrex 2400-12 two years old, installed off grid in a vacation home in Mexico, a service call is not an option. The inverter quit working, flashes "888" and shuts off. I have a trace...

First off I am not in this for the money. If your not satisfied with the information below simply reject the solution so that you can hear from other experts.

The 888 flashing is telling you that the inverter has lost DC power momentarily. This can be from broken strands in the battery cables or an internal wiring problem in the inverter. Check the battery cables for corrosion. Remove the terminals check for battery post corrosion and visually inspect each bable to terminal connection from the battery connector to the inverter DC Power connections.
Here is something to keep in mind. A DC power cable only needs one tiny strand of wire to indicate voltage on a meter. However, if there is any load on the AC side that tiny strand of wire that is giving you the proper DC reading may in fact drop well below 10.5 V DC and simply cause the unit to automatically shut off even with no load.

Explain your situation to Xantrex using the link below and they may be able to help you due to the fact that you do not have a local "post warranty service provider" in Mexico:

If your product requires troubleshooting or warranty service, contact your

dealer.

If you are unable to contact your dealer, or the dealer is unable to provide

service, contact Xantrex directly at:

Direct returns may be performed according to the Xantrex Return Material

Authorization Policy described in your product manual. For some products,

Xantrex maintains a network of regional Authorized Service Centers. Call

Xantrex or check our website to see if your product can be repaired at one of

these facilities.

What proof of purchase is required? In any warranty claim, dated proof of

purchase must accompany the product and the product must not have been

disassembled or modified without prior written authorization by Xantrex.

Proof of purchase may be in any one of the following forms:

• The dated purchase receipt from the original purchase of the product at

point of sale to the end user, or

• The dated dealer invoice or purchase receipt showing original equipment

manufacturer (OEM) status, or

• The dated invoice or purchase receipt showing the product exchanged

under warranty

3 yr old ge fridge started clicking yesterday and everything got warm i unplugged and motor kicked on. Is this a compressor going bad?

Good day,
It could be, as you said, the compressor going bad or it's possible the start relay clipped to the compressor body is failing.
If it repeats the problem, you could unclip the relay from the compressor and replace it with a new one.
However, since you still have 2 years factory warranty on the compressor I would suggest you call GE or a GE factory authorized service company. If it's the relay, you will be charged for the repair, but by doing that you will maintain the integrity of the compressor warranty, especially if the repair turns out to be short lived and it turns out the compressor needs to be replaced.

Heater work poorly

Hi, what seems to be going on here is several things need to be checked. When a heater starts to slow down lets say, I would make sure 1st of all that you have a clean return air filter in the system. 2nd, make sure that the indoor blower motor is clean and running up to speed. Ruud and Rheem units collect dust very fast and the filter must be maintained. If this is all ok, depending on the age of you're unit, and if it is natural gas or propane, you're heat exchanger may be cracked or plugged with soot. I woul'd say that you need to call out your local gas company as they will come out free of charge if you tell them you think you smell gas and your heater is acting up. What they will do is come and make sure you have no leak and inspect it heating section. I would say you are in need of service. Burners may be plugged also. I would call out the gas company and they will tell you if you need a sevice call or hopefully they will find and make a repair rather then you calling out a Tech. Im not saying you have a gas leak but this will get them rolling on it and a place to start. If you are inclined to make these checks on you're own, look in the burner section when the unitis on and see if all burners are on with a nice blue row of flames. Look it over and see if the blower motor is clean. This is all very important. Please get back to me and keep me posted. Best of luck,

Does my 10-seer have a 10 year compressor warranty?

If you take all the numbers off the compressor and condesning unit and call an authorized RUUD parts dealer in your area, they should be able to verify your inquiry.

Unless there was a special circumstance, most compressor warranties are 5 years, unless the compressor was replaced during the 5 year period, in which case you should get 5 more years assuming the service was performed by an authorized service company.

Main computer problem...starts briefly but will not run

Sounds like a bad install and the wiring might be crossed. But as they stated, without schematics, it's hard to know which wire is which. Acura should cooperated if the Honda dealer is authorized. Mention "small claims court" and see how fast they cooperate. BTW, the MDX and Pilot share alot of the schematics. i don't know why Honda can't play with it. I believe they don't want the liability.

Continues to run

yes I would switch it over due to the fact that the balance point reached. Since I'm not there to look at the system monitor the actual temperature inside and if you cannot maintain the setpoint on the thermostat you may have to bring it back on. I've seen recently that there was not enough backup heat to keep the house warm enough during cold spells. Stay warm.
