GE Water Cooler Cold Water does not come out, Why?

Randomly the cold water stops working. The Hot & Room Temp valves work fine but the Cold water tap works on and off randomly. Mostly not working. What is the cause of this and how can I fix it. This is a great cooler when it works.

It works like a fridge or ac. When its charge gets low it can't cool. It will cycle on and off as freon goes around the circuit. Must be leaking around seals or crack in line. A good ac man could check its pressure to determine. Also, thermostat could be going bad, I would check that as well.

Thanks Joe. I don't know who to call for this but maybe there is something I can do myself. Where do I begin? Is there a way to open the unit up to look inside for a leak or do I need to get some type of kit to check the freon/pressure?

I find very little documentation on this thing but, I do remember checking some things on one in a doctor's office one time. I think the lower front panel snaps in place which in turn should pull forward to come off. Maybe you can get it with a flat screwdriver, looking for leaks is the main thing, there are more than one thermostat that could possibly be faulty or dirty, I'll keep digging for you and let you know more what I find the next few days.

Ok, great. I tried to open it but was unsuccessful. I didn\'t want to pull too hard on the plastic. The fridge seems to be working fine, which I found interesting. It\'s just the cold water valve that\'s not releasing when pressed. Once I get it open I hope to be able to get a better idea as to what\'s going on. Thanks for your help. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Great, it does make sense that if that valve is sticking, it would detect a loss of pressure and stop cooling for awhile until someone plays with the button. I apologize that there is no mastering of opening proprietary casings for appliances to aleviate the fear of breaking them. I think it should have some kind of pop slots or screws from the back side. I haven't found and don't remember if the back opens or not. I did find some listing of some parts and I think the valves. Actually, I see here that the panel somehow swings open to the left. http://www.partselect.com/Models/PXCF22R... ,I found the valves on another page, let me find it.

The diagram looks like a slightly different model. The door at the bottom that's open is the fridge. The freon tubs extend the entire back of the unit. I'm not sure about the access screws being in the back but I will take a look when I get back to the office.

Bosch AquaStar 125b suddenly goes cold

your not making sense with you question --state it goes cold in middle of shower --but state it will stay hot or cold forever ----if its the latter continued hot till you shut off water that normal working if the unit shuts down during shower then you have a problem ----unit is set at one temp and runs at that temp and you use shower 1 handle / 2 valve what ever you own to adjust temp their are really only 4 reasons stops making hot water ----2 are usually well water supply --incoming water pressure /flow or to cold ----other are gas valve -or sensor so i would look into your shower handles since almost all have adjustments and anti scold safety

Installed a new GE Water Heater 40 gal (Gas based) I have the set thermostat at position A. The problem I have is I get very hot water for 10 seconds and then the water gets cooler and cooler quickly. Even...

1) First of all, did you install yourself?
Did you connect hot and cold water pipes correctly.
If hot and cold are reversed, water heater will not work.
Look at markings on top of tank.

2) Is gas valve all the way open? Is valve handle parallel with gas line?

3) Is water heater in a closed closet when it cannot get air?
4) All gas combustion appliances need air supply and outdoor venting.

5) Next thing, is to add a comment with exact size and type of water heater as shown on label on side of tank.
I might be able to access manual for troubleshoot.

Read the manual cover to cover twice.

Not getting any hot water. Pilot light and burner seem to be working properly. Went from working fine in morning to not working at all this evening.

No hot water anywhere,or just one faucet, doesn't sound right if burner is working,if its coming on then your gas valve/thermostat on front is not working properly. Can be changed, but I would turn up temp. red dial see if she fires and watch to see if she stays on.Gas valve is threaded in and can be changed, depending on warranty.Could also be dip tube is cracked or broken in half, its a tube that forces cold water to bottem of tank,if not working you'll get a real short shower because cold water is in top of tank.Tube can be replaced, its on the cold water fill side which would have to be taken apart.Thinking now its your tube

Rinnai Infinity 26 hot water system set to 55 degrees with remote temp adjuster. Water only luke warm for showers. Burnner working, water & gas pressure ok. Any thoughts ... Stephen

If you aren't getting any error codes, then the heater is probably doing its job. Your problem is probably somewhere in your plumbing system. The most common reason you get this sort of problem is due to cold water mixing in the hot water system. There are a number of causes for a "cross connection" :

-Faulty check valve
-Missing check valve on reciculation return line
-Faulty shower cartridge
-Thermostatic mixing valve set too low
-Faulty thermostatic mixing valve
-Faulty anti-scald valve

The easiest way to confirm a cross connection is to: 1) shutoff the cold water entering the tankless heater 2) open hot water valves around the house. If you still have water flowing at your hot water fixtures, then you have a cross connection.

Heats up the rapidly decreases within in minutes.

Problem new or old? How long you have unit? Sounds like not enough flow to keep burner on. Tankless need at least .6 gpm to keep hot water flowing or else the burner fires then shuts fires then shuts and you get a sandwich effect...hot cold hot cold. If you have new diverter valve in shower -vs- old two handle type try turning hot water ALL the way ON and see if hot stays hot. If it does stay hot then slowly adjust to cool and see if you maintain a good MIX for proper temp. If it goes cold again try this......LOWER control pad setting to a comfortable 105 degrees (ladies) 100 degrees(men) and turn shower valve all the way to HOT. See if your temp remains consistant now and if it does then problem solved. Tankless mindset...set temp on control pad and stop trying to MIX at shower valve. Thats how these things work. Thats why I install a control pad in each bath and one in the kitchen for adjusting ash temp during dishwasher on time. ditto for wash machine. You should never need to turn on cold water if your unit is set to proper temp at controller. Hope this helps
