You can look on EBay and purchase a damaged unit, be certain to check that the screen isn't broken because some of them have broken screens. I purchased one with a good screen, took the units apart and put the unbroken screen onto my leappad2. Works great and now we wait for the screen be broken again. The screen is a terrible one for units used by children. I would recommend leapfrog start using gorilla glass on all their electronic "toys".

Really in these cases Leap Pads are not like IPads, you can't replace the screen. What I personally suggest is to take it back to the store and see if they'll give you a discount on another one.
