Nuvi 660 shutting down and rebooting itself

My 660 is 6 months old. it has started doing a hard boot on its own. driving, using the mapping system and it simply reboots itself. when it comes back up - the voice is still talking like the system itself doesn't know it shut down. it does this on both battery power and with being plugged into the vehicle. also, when it does this - the voice starts sounding wavy. any suggestions or comments?

It should still be under a one-year warranty. Contact Garmin for warranty claims. The first link below is Garmin's generic US warranty; the second is their customer support.

SOURCE: Nuvi 660 -- Loading Supplemental Maps

The best price I could find in the US for the
Euope maps was about $230 -on the internet - normal retail is $299. You have to buy and use it off the SD card, so depending on how long your trip is it might be more practical renting one, unless you want to try selling the SD card after you return.

SOURCE: Garmin Nuvi 660 - how do I get FM Transmitter firmware

Yes, you can purchase an external FM modulator like those used on IPOD's and CD players. I am using one on my Nuvi 350 and it works well. Just plug it into the headphone jack. Advice: Be sure to buy one that is crystal (PLL) controlled and NOT using a tuning dial. The FM modulators that use a tuning dial often tend to drift and they will also change frequency when you hit a bump in the road.

Good Luck!

Gateway MT6840 unexpectedly shut down and wouldn't

First - re-seat the hard disk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot and go into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty.
Then the hard drive needs to be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer or laptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioning computer/laptop again.

My nuvi 660 turns on but displays "loading maps"

Hello,

The problem is that the nuvi 660 gps receiver is jammed and needs to be reformatted.
What you have to do is to disconnect the gps, and connect it to a computer, then format it.

After formatting it, you download the self extracting archive files for your nuvi on to your hard drive, then connect your nuvi to a free USB port on your PC interface cable and allow your nuvi to initialize and enter USB mode, Unzip the files by running the downloaded executable files, then follow the instruction provided by the launched update application on your PC.

Then install it back in your car and turn it on, it will work once again.

Take care and good luck
i hope this helps?

My garmin nuvi 265 will keep shutting down and rebooting while being used. any suggestions, it is just over 1 year old and this happens whether on battery power or if connected to DC power

I can help you reset and fix your Garmin Nuvi 265W.

Getting stuck on the flashing Garmin logo, or a message about not finding any maps, or freezing and rebooting, are indications that the firmware / system software inside your GPS has been corrupted.

There are three steps to take to get your Nuvi 265W running like new:

  1. Back up your Favorites.
  2. Perform a Hard Reset.
  3. Download and then run Garmin WebUpdater to replace its firmware / system software.

I hope that helps.

Garmin bluetooth won't disconnect call

Solution below works for NUVI660 as well; ignore everything after step 6 but DO reboot and delete previously existing connections.

good luck

All,

I was having the same problem with my Curve and Nuvi 680. What has fixed this for me is downgrading the Bluetooth firmware version on the Nuvi itself. I was running version 3.0 (you can check your version by going to Settings -> System -> About on the Nuvi) -- I had success after downgrading to version 2.4.

It's a bit of a convoluted process, but here is the procedure I followed:

1. Download the old Nuvi BT firmware from the Garmin Italy website:

http://www.garmin.it/files/FileBluetooth.zip

2. Connect your Nuvi to your PC.

3. Go into the X:GarminRemoteSW and look for a file called 006B055301.GCD (where X: is your Nuvi drive)

4. Back up that file to your
computer, and delete it from the Nuvi.

5. Extract the file in the zip downloaded in step 1 to the X:GarminRemoteSW directory

6. Disconnect your Nuvi from your computer, and let it
reboot

7. Click on "View Map," then touch the "Speed" in the lower left corner.

8. You should have the "Dashboard" view up. Touch and hold the "Moving Average" box for ~15 seconds until the diagnostic screen appears.

9. Press the "next" button until you arrive at the "Bluetooth Status" screen (5-6 screens in)

10. Click "Updt PR" and then click "Yes"

11. Reboot the Nuvi, delete the existing bluetooth pairing, and attempt to re-pair with your BlackBerry.

Seems to work perfectly now -- please let me know if you have any questions. Good luck!

Charging doesn't display map when charging

I learned that with the unit off - hold the on button down - don't release it. A PRE-BOOT MODE message will appear at the bottom and may flash. Continue holding down the start button. The first time I did it a series of dots came on the screen and I was instructed to touch each one. After that it started as normal. I plugged into a wall charger and but git the pc and nuvi icons again. I repeated the process - holding the on button on and let the PRE-BOOT MODE appear and kept holding but this time a different message came on and then the PRE-BOOT MODE appeared again. I let it go and took the unit to my car and plugged it into the Garmin car charger and it worked as it used to - normal. However, when I plugged it back in the house to the wall charged I got the pc and nuvi icon again. It appears that I am using the wrong wall charger as a previous writes stated. But the nuvi still worked in the car plugged into the nuvi charger. I hope this helps.

2009 map update not loading

Fixed. Called Garmin. It seems that version 4.90 FW on the Nuvi 350 (which came shipped on my 350) has a bug where it cannot communicate with the Garmin software either to update maps or update FW. Tech from Garmin e-mailed me a patch that I copied into the Garmin folder on the Nuvi itself, via USB and Windows Explorer. I then rebooted it; the patch installed itself which then allowed the unit to communicate with the map upgrade software and all is well. 2009 map update is now installed and the Nuvi is working fine again. Haven't tried upgrading to newer FW yet; will probably leave well enough alone.

Garmin nuvi won't turn on

folks, the garmins have an on-board battery that needs to be powered up (at least occasionally) via the usb port - like from your computer. just using the dc car power cord does nothing for this battery. i've had this exact same problem on both my 760 and 780 nuvi units. fixed it using the usb charge. seems to run down differently for all the various nuvi models. my regular charge will hold for 7 hours on my old 660, my 760 and 780 work about 5 hours. my 'power up' failed on the 660 after 10 months with no internal battery charge, but the 7xx models only took about 5-6 months to 'fail.' hope this helps. jack b :-) in midland, tx usa
