Printhead Error Message

Just bought printer tonight. After assembling and cutting the power on, got an error message that the Black/Yellow printhead had a problem. I don't know how to take the printhead out and reinstall. Please help!

  • Anonymous Feb 12, 2009

The Printer is an HP Officejet Pro L7590 that I am getting a printhead error message. How do I take out the printhead and reinstall. The Black/Yellow printhead is the one with the problem. Brand new printer, just bought today!

  • Anonymous Feb 12, 2009

This is a brand new HP Officetjet Pro L7590 printer. Just out of the box. I tried turning off and back on and that does not clear the problem. Can I take the printhead out and try to re-install once it has been installed inside the printer.

Since it's brand new and it doesn't work right, take it back for a replacement.

  • Anonymous Feb 12, 2009

Step two: Clean the electrical contacts on the printhead and inside the product

    The
ink nozzles on the printheads might clog if you expose them to air for
more than a few minutes. The ink nozzles also might clog if you do not
use the product for long periods of time. Follow these steps to clean
the electrical contacts on the printheads.

    CAUTION:

Follow these steps carefully to avoid damaging the sensitive electrical components.

Make sure that the product is turned on.

Open the top cover of the product.

        Press and hold the
        OK
button for five seconds. The carriage moves to the left side of the product. Release the
        OK
        button.

Wait until the carriage is idle and silent.

Unplug the product power cord from the electrical outlet.

        NOTE:

Do not turn the product off by pressing the Power button (
). This causes the carriage to move out of reach.

        Lift the printhead latch.

Figure 1: Lift the printhead latch

        Lift
the handle on the printhead that the error message indicates is missing
or damaged, and then pull the printhead out of its slot.

Figure 2: Lift the handle and remove the printhead

Use a dry, soft, lint-free cloth to remove any ink from the electrical contacts on the printhead.

        CAUTION:

Wipe only the electrical contacts. Wiping the ink nozzles, located on
the underside of the printhead, can damage the printhead.Do not touch
the nozzles. Doing so permanently damages the ink nozzles, and the ink
        stains clothing.

Figure 3: Electrical contacts and ink nozzles

        1 - Electrical contacts

        2 - Ink nozzles

Wipe the electrical contacts with the swab until no ink residue remains.

Wipe the electrical contacts with a fresh cloth to dry them and remove lint.

        After
the electrical contacts on the printhead are clean and dry, place the
printhead on a sheet of paper or a paper towel. Make sure that the ink
nozzles face up and do not touch the paper.

Use a fresh, dry, soft, lint-free cloth to clean the electrical contacts inside the product.

Figure 4: Clean the electrical contacts inside the product

        Allow
at least five minutes for the contacts to dry. Check the contacts for
lint or debris, and then dry or clean the contacts again if needed.

Plug the product power cord into the electrical outlet.

        Press the Power button (
) to turn on the product. 'Printhead missing or damaged, replace the printhead'
        displays on the control panel.

Insert the printhead into its color-coded slot. Press down firmly on the printhead to make sure the electrical contacts touch.

Pull the printhead latch all the way forward, and then press down to engage the latch.

        NOTE:

You might have to press firmly to engage the latch.

        If
the error message indicates that both printheads are missing or
damaged, repeat the steps in this procedure to clean the other
        printhead.

Close the top cover of the product. The product restarts and then prints an alignment page.

        If these
        steps resolved the issue
, there is no need to continue troubleshooting.

        If the
        issue persists
, continue to the next step.

        Lift the printhead latch.

Figure 5: Lift the printhead latch

Lift the handle on the printhead you are replacing, and then pull the printhead out of its slot.

Figure 6: Lift the handle and remove the printhead

Shake the new printhead package five to six times.

Figure 7: Shake the printhead package

Remove the new printhead from the package.

Remove the protective caps from the printhead.

Figure 8: Remove the protective caps

        Insert
the printhead into its color-coded slot. The label on the printhead
must match the label on the printhead latch. Press down firmly on the
printhead to make sure the electrical contacts touch.

Pull the printhead latch all the way forward, and then press down firmly to engage the latch.

        NOTE:

You might have to press firmly to engage the latch.

        If
the error message indicates that both printheads are missing or
damaged, repeat the steps in this procedure to replace the other
        printhead.

Close the top cover of the product. The product restarts and then prints an alignment page.

    Step four: Service the All-in-One

If you have completed all the steps listed above and are still experiencing a problem, service the product.

To print the print quality diagnostic page

Use the print quality diagnostic page to diagnose issues affecting the print quality. This

will help you decide whether to run any maintenance tools to improve the print quality

of your printouts. You can also view the ink level information, and the printhead health

    status on the page.

    • Control panel: Press the Setup button, select Print Report, select Print Quality

    Page, and then press OK.

    • Embedded Web server: Click the Settings tab, click Device Services in the left

pane, select Print PQ (print quality) diagnostic page from the drop-down list in

the Print Quality section, and then click Run Diagnostic.

    • Toolbox (Windows): Click the Services tab, and then click Print PQ (print

quality) diagnostic page and follow the onscreen instructions.

    • HP Printer Utility (Mac OS): Click Print Quality Diagnostics from the

    Information and Support panel.

    To align the printheads

Whenever you replace a printhead, the device automatically aligns the printheads to

ensure the best print quality. However, if the appearance of your printed pages

indicates that the printheads are misaligned, you can start the alignment process

    manually.

    • Control panel: Press the Setup button, select Tools, select Align Printer, and

then press OK. Press OK when the alignment is done to continue.

    • Embedded Web server: Click the Settings tab, click Device Services in the left

pane, select Align Printheads from the drop-down list in the Print Quality

section, and then click Run Diagnostic.

    • Toolbox (Windows): Click the Services tab, and then click Align Printheads and

    follow the onscreen instructions.

    To clean the printheads

NOTE: Cleaning uses ink, so clean the printheads only when necessary.

The cleaning process takes up to 3.5 minutes. Some noise might be generated in

    the process.

    • Control panel: Press the Setup button, select Tools, and then select Clean

    Printhead.

    • Embedded Web server: Click the Device Settings tab, click Device Services in

the left pane, select Clean printheads from the drop-down list in the Print Quality

section, and then click Run Diagnostic.

    • Toolbox (Windows): Click the Services tab, and then click Clean Printheads

    and follow the onscreen instructions.

    • HP Printer Utility (Mac OS): Click Clean from the Information and Support panel.

To clean the printhead contacts manually

After the printheads are installed, you might get a control panel message telling you

the device will not print. If you receive this message, you might need to clean the

electrical contacts on the printheads and in the device.

CAUTION: Clean the electrical contacts only after you have attempted to clean

the printheads. Electrical contacts contain sensitive electronic components that can

be damaged easily. For more information, see To clean the printheads.

    1. Open the top cover.

    2. If the carriage does not move to the left automatically, press and hold the OK

button for five seconds. Wait for the carriage to stop moving, and then unplug the

    power cord from the printer.

    CAUTION: Do not use water

    6. Wipe the electrical contacts on the printhead but do not touch the nozzles.

NOTE:The electrical contacts are small copper-color squares, grouped on

    one face of the printhead.

The nozzles are on a different face of the printhead. Ink will be visible on the

    nozzles.

CAUTION:Touching the nozzles can cause permanent nozzle damage. Also,

    ink can permanently mark clothing.

    7. After cleaning, place the printhead on a sheet of paper or paper towel. Make sure

the nozzles are facing up and are not in contact with the paper.

    8. Clean the electrical contacts in the printhead slot inside the device with a clean,

    dry, soft and lint-free cloth.

    9. Plug in the power cord and turn on the device. The control panel should indicate

    that the printhead is missing.

    10. Insert the printhead into its color-coded slot (the label on the printhead must match

the label on the printhead latch). Press down firmly on the printhead to ensure

    proper contact.

    11. Pull the printhead latch all the way forward, and then press down to ensure that

the latch is properly engaged. You might have to apply some pressure to engage

    the latch.

    12. Where necessary, repeat the above steps for the remaining printhead.

    13. Close the top cover.

    14. If the control panel message remains, repeat the cleaning procedure described

above for the printhead which corresponds to the message.

    15. If the control panel message remains, replace the printhead which corresponds to

    the message.

    16. Wait while the device initializes the printheads and prints the alignment pages. If

the device does not print the pages, start the alignment process manually. For

more information, see To align the printheads.

Just take it back and say its messed up. Its not worth the trouble if its brand new under warranty.

You did take the thin plastic film off the ink cartdridges before putting them in right?

Just asking because this could cause problems.

In this case what i would request u to do is.......
Take out both the catridges from the Printer.........
Take 2 Paper Towels one should be wet with Luke warm water and the other one should be dry...........
Take the Colour catridge first turn it upside down and u will see a small copper plate on the catridge from where the ink comes out.......
Place the wet paper towel using ur thumb on the Copper plate and press it a lit bit for 10 Seconds......
Now remove it and see whether u see any ink on the paper towel..........
U should see some ink on it now place the dry paper towel on the ink catridge in the same way........
Now do the same procedure again..........
Do the same procedure twice on the Black Catridge.................
Now take the dry paper towel and turn the direction of the cartridge so that u can see a Copper plate on it with small boxes just clean that copper plate with the Dry Paper Towel..........
Know insert both the catridges inside the Printer.....
Good Luck

Hi....If this is the first time the error has occurred, try turning the printer off and on.
Let it sit turned off for at least 20 seconds before powering it back on.

If powering off and on the printer clears the error, please continue using the printer but watch it to see if any printhead errors return.

If your printer continues to display a Printhead Error message, make sure it is plugged straight to the wall and not through a surge device or power strip. Power strips and uninterrupted power supplies can cause a low amperage problem in your printer. This can trigger a printhead error even if the printer has worked on this surge device for months.

If the printer continues to post a 930 Printhead Error, it thinks the wrong printhead unit is installed.

If the printer was recently serviced, make sure the correct parts were used. This is especially true if the parts replaced were either the printhead unit or the printer's engine/system board. It is in one of these two parts that the printer is detecting the problem. Note: If you are the person repairing such a printer, please be aware that parts from different, though similar, printer models may not be compatible with this printer. Also make sure to check the laser cable going from the printer's engine board to the printhead unit, as it reads that signal.

If the printer was not recently serviced before this error occurred and powering the printer off and on does not help, the printhead unit and possibly the laser cable or the engine/system board to this printer may need to be replaced.

If the printer continues to post a 931 Printhead Error, it thinks there is an error in the signal going to the laser or the Hsync part of the printhead assembly.

If the printer continues to post a 932 Printhead Error, it thinks there is an Hsync error occurring in the printhead assembly.

If the printer continues to post a 933 Printhead Error, it thinks there is a failure in either the Hsync signal or with the mirror motor unit of the printhead.

If the printer continues to post a 934 Printhead Error, it thinks there is a "lock" failure with the mirror motor assembly within the printhead assembly.

If the printer continues to post a 935 Printhead Error, it thinks the mirror motor unit within the printhead unit cannot reach its operating speed.

If powering the printer off and on does not clear any of these errors and it is already connected directly to the wall, your printer may require service. It could have a defective printhead unit or there might be a problem with the engine board or one of the printhead cables. Note: If you are the person repairing such a printer, check all of the cables going from the printer's engine board to the printhead unit for any damage. Also check the continuity across these cables.

Message on printer screen says "The following printhead(s) has a problem: black/yellow (K/Y).

Hi,

This probably could be defective Printhead ( black/yellow )

Follow the steps below and it should resolve the issue, if not, you need to replace the K/Y Printhead. You can purchase it from any nearest departmental store like bestbuy or costco or walmart etc or Call HP and order one.

Open the front access door. ( printer must be power on )
Remove the Latch of the Printheads
Remove the Printhead
Clean the Contacts with lint free cloth ( golden contacts or electrical contacts / not the nozzles )
Re-install the Printhead back in its position and close the front access door.
The printer usually goes thru initialization process. or Turn off the printer and turn on.
If you still get the error message, Replace the K/Y Printhead.

Lexmark c782 ps printer has printerhead error..108.10

hi
If this is the firsttime the error has occurred, try turning the printer off. Let it sit turned off for atleast 20 seconds before powering it back on. If powering the printer offand back on clears the error, continue using the printer but watchit to see if any printhead errors return. If your printer continues todisplay a Printhead Error message, make sure it is plugged straight tothe wall and not through a surge device or power strip. Power strips anduninterrupted power supplies can cause a low amperage problem in your printer. This can trigger a printhead error even if the printer has worked on this surgedevice for months.
If theprinter continues to post a 930 Printhead Error, it thinks thewrong printhead unit is installed. If the printer was recentlyserviced, make sure the correct parts were used. This is especially true if theparts replaced were either the printhead unit or the printer's engine/systemboard. It is in one of these two parts that the printer is detecting theproblem. Note: If you are the personrepairing such a printer, please be aware that parts from different, though similar, printer models may not be compatible with this printer. Also make sure to check the laser cable going from the printer's engine boardto the printhead unit, as it reads that signal. If the printer was notrecently serviced before this error occurred and powering the printer off andon does not help, the printhead unit and possibly the laser cable or theengine/system board to this printer may need to be replaced.
If the printer continues topost a 931 Printhead Error, it thinks there is an error in the signalgoing to the laser or the Hsync part of the printhead assembly. If the printer continues topost a 932 Printhead Error, it thinks there is an Hsync error occurringin the printhead assembly. If the printer continues topost a 933 Printhead Error, it thinks there is a failure in either theHsync signal or with the mirror motor unit of the printhead. If the printer continues topost a 934 Printhead Error, it thinks there is a "lock"failure with the mirror motor assembly within the printhead assembly. If the printer continues topost a 935 Printhead Error, it thinks the mirror motor unit within theprinthead unit cannot reach its operating speed.
If powering the printer offand on does not clear any of these errors and it is alreadyconnected directly to the wall, your printer may require service. Itcould have a defective printhead unit or there might be a problem with theengine board or one of the printhead cables. Note:If you are the person repairing such a printer, check all of the cablesgoing from the printer's engine board to the printhead unit for any damage. Also check the continuity across these cables.

I have three HP L7780 printers that have bad print heads black/yellow. replaced but same problem. ?????

take out printheads. unplugg power cable from back press adn hold down 6 and # buttons on pritner at same time while holding them down plugg it back in. then insert printheads one by one. first insert black/yellow shutt the door adn check for message on pritner screen. if it says printhead missing cyan/megenta it means it detected black/yellow printhead. do same with cyan/megenta adn check for message on screen. if you see no error mesage and both printheads were detected fine let the printheads alligned completely. then if u see same issue it is the pritner whgich need to be replaced.
