Can I connect a turntable with earth cable to an Onkyo CR515

Trio turntable has earth cable

  • Anonymous Feb 21, 2013

I've connected the ground cable to the pre-amp chassis and it seems to work. Guess that's OK?

  • Anonymous Feb 21, 2013

right, if you have no hum then the ground wire is connected to a "proper" location.

Yes you can but you will need a phono preamp such as the one found here.
http://www.turntableneedles.com/Phono-Pre-Amps_c_4.html
Hook the output of the preamp to Line 1 on the back of the CR515 and for simplest ground wire hookup, choose a preamp with a thumbscrew for the ground (earth) cable coming from your turntable.

Tanks Steve. I've got a pre-amp but it doesn't have ground post. So just connected earth to screw on the casing of the re-amp. Seems to be OK, no hum.

yes the ground wire can alternately be connected to a screw on the Onkyo that screws into the metal chassis.

When connecting AT-LP120 Audio technica turntable to Onkyo stereo receiver TX-8140 I get distorted sound - the turntable came with set cables installed to connect. How do I resolve this problem

hi,

instead of plugging your turntable into "phono in" on the amp just try a regular auxilary input like aux ,video, or cd. sounds like the turntable output isnt like the old ones and may be just a regular output.

How to hookup a sony turntable to a Onkyo TX-sr605

Hi
I have managed to find a manual for your Onkyo machine. It is in pdf format so can be saved to your computer for future reference. It can be obtained here:
http://www.uk.onkyo.com/downloads/1/1/7/3/6/21507518_65197b9e73.pdf
and by using the Adobe Acrobat Reader search function with "turntable" as the search term, I found diagrams on page 36 which clearly showed how to connect various types of turntable.
Hope this helps

Onkyo TX 8020 Receiver sounds muffled. I have the Onkyo TX 80202 receiver and just bought the Audio Technica AT-LP120 turntable to connect to it. I have the turntable switch to "Phono" (so as to make use...

This sounds like a wiring problem. Perhaps a faulty earth connection inside the lead or the plugs to and from the turntable. Also check the connections to the cartridge, they can become loose or be connected wrong. Say a channel to the earth connection.

How do I connect my turntable? I have tried using the slots for auxiliary, with an Onkyo turntable with standard plugs. Do I need a special adaptor?

Auxiliary will work but its not intended for phono ( record player ).
The turn table doesn't have a amp so the sound will be lower.
Where as auxiliary is designed for digital connection ( mp3 Laptops etc ) that have they own pre amp.
all the turn tables I have use need to be Earthed to the amp via a earthing tag or you will get a bad sound.
Hope this helps.

I just bought a used Technics 1210 MK2, its in great cosmetic condition, however when I turn it on its just a buzzing noise coming from the turntable, should I be worried...? and is there a cure?

The noise will be earth feedback. You might need to connect a wire to an earth point on the turntable - that goes to earth (a metal pipe etc). Sometimes the earth feedback is caused by the earth cable (green/yellow) in the plug either connected or not!

Where do I attach a ground wire on an Onkyo CP1100A turntable? I'm getting a hum. Thanks. GK

Some amps have Earth connections for them. But any kind of metal might do it.

Pioneer PL-570 turntable (c.1973)

Yes first check is that the Gnd wire from your turntable is connected to the Gnd (ground) post at the back of your amplifier with a good clean tight connection.
If the problem persists, check ALL your hi-fi components mains plugs for earth connections including your turntable, then remove the earth connections on all but one component so that you are left with only item earthed.
What does sometimes cause problems is if 2 or more hi-fi separates are earthed and connected to each other the earth cables along with the hi-fi interconnects form an inductive loop that picks up interferance such as mains hum etc.
