I have a problem with the low power adjustment not adjusting. The high will. The radio works fine other than that but cannot use the rf power adjustment. I can bring the power [watts] down to 3 watts or so with the high and thats all. This radio was picked up fairly cheap and someone has had their golden screwdriver in it. have fixed several other problems. Are the adjustments the same as a 2980wx. Can't find a lot of info on this radio. I have vr 13 as high vr 16 low vr 14 mod adj. would appreciate any help.
VR16 is not the low power adjustment, it's the CW Tone.
As far as I can tell, there is no low power adjust.
Try a different resistance pot for the RF Power.
Make sure the output of the AC to DC power suppy inside the radio is between 12 and 14.4v, and hasn't been cranked up to 16v in the screwdriver expert's quest to put mo' axe in their co-ax.
Most probably, someone has removed a resistor or something on the main board in the never-ending quest for more wattage or modulation, and now the radio is out of alignment...
The main circuit board is a EPT 3600. The adjustments are the same as a 33 HML Galaxy. I have an RCI 2980 and have used these schematics to tune my cb with. Hope this will be of help.
