Im just wondering if anyone knows the most common reasons why this might happen and what i can do to fix it. a relative gave it to me cause its not under warranty and im not entirely sure i want to take it into a shop and pay who knows what. if its even remotely possible that its something i can do, or replace id rather give it a go
Try checking the fuses, it shouldnt shut off after 5 to 15 seconds this is the 1st time ever hearing about that try that an let me kno wut happens

Bought a Tx-Sr605 from FRYS as a return item. Sales rep said it had been fixed. The job order stated the unit would shut off after running for a bit. I took it home and at first it ran fine and stayed on for a couple of hours. Then just the other day in the middle of watching "Heroes" on our DVR, it decides to start shutting off every 20 minutes. I checked all the speaker leads to make sure nothing was crossed, plus it ran days prior with no issues. I am going to send it back again for repair, with any luck they can fix it for good. :)
I've had the same problem for a while now. Occasionally it just decides to turn off. When I try to turn it back on, it will just shut off again. Eventually, it will work, sometimes for days or weeks before it happens again. I replaced all of my speaker wire... didn't fix the problem. I took it into an authorized Onkyo repair shop and he couldn't find the problem. Oddly enough, after I hooked it back up, it worked for a couple of months before the problem started again. It's not a heat issue as it's winter and my house is very cool right now, and it's not enclosed in a cabinet and has plenty of air flow.
I think it has something to do with a prevention circuit but have not been able to find any solutions either on the internet or through Onkyo support.
I have the same problem. My wife noticed when dusting if we just tap the receiver it shuts off. some times it shuts off it self some times ok for a month. HELP!!!
