I have seen this symptom a lot recently. There is a 9 volt regulator on the small signal board, and the output voltage on this IC has dropped down to about 8 volts, which causes that symptom. Replacing that regulator should cure your problem, and when I make a housecall for a set like that I charge $150, although I hear that the average service center charges a lot more than that. I also believe that it is never a good idea to leave a projection TV on all the time, so whoever told you that has no idea what they are talking about.
