check for burn out bulbs first = that can cause the flasher to do funky stuff. if that is not the case, then the actual flashing (forget the name...thingy) on the circuit board is fried and needs to be replaced (not a common problem) . another this could be that the signal switch itself is broken and constantly in the on position...

I have seen this symptom a lot recently. There is a 9 volt regulator on the small signal board, and the output voltage on this IC has dropped down to about 8 volts, which causes that symptom. Replacing that regulator should cure your problem, and when I make a housecall for a set like that I charge $150, although I hear that the average service center charges a lot more than that. I also believe that it is never a good idea to leave a projection TV on all the time, so whoever told you that has no idea what they are talking about.
