This is multiple different problems.
If you installed apps from Ovi Store since you last switched off your phone, then you switched off your phone, then you try to switch on your phone again and it freezes at the Nokia logo and never gets to the handshake, and it won't even switch off again, then do the following:
Open the back of the phone. Remove the battery. Open the bottom flap on the left side and push in on the micro SD card to eject it. Don't bother taking it out of the slot though. Put the battery back in. Don't close the back of the phone. Switch the phone on. It will now work. Push the micro SD card back in. Go to Settings, Application Manager, and try uninstalling apps that you installed recently. Try removing the Garfield game first. Once you have uninstalled a couple of apps, switch off the phone and see if it now works. If it still doesn't work, you know those apps are innocent, and try uninstalling different recent apps. Put the back of the phone back on.

Try this if all else fails:
Press the GREEN + RED + CAMERA buttons all together, then hit the power key. Wait for it to show the handshake and you should get a prompt for pin code and/or lock code. The default lock code is 12345, but it sometimes stays the same after restart.

It sounds like it's the battery or the phone. If you don't know anyone that has the same make and model. You will need to take it to the store and have them try one of thier test batteries in your phone...if it doesn't come on still there is something wrong with your phone and you will need to get it replaced....if it comes on then it's your battery that needs to be replaced.

Its not On . . .
this is a fluke that intrigued me also, it occurs when it just came off the charger, or put on the charger, and you turn it on, but its not on??? did you feel the Vibration that hits when it turns on? not likly when you get this white screen that goes nowhere.

ok so now your saying that i am insane and have told you nothing that would help, ok i am insane, but i am going to show you something if you will just bear with me in my padded cell.

Turn OFF the phone, check it with the slide lock, is it off? ok now plug in the charger . . . . wait for it , wait for it. there you go. now you have one more piece of the puzzel.

the phone is NOT broken (usually) first remove the charger plug, wait 20 seconds, then turn the phone on (hold that dang resessed button for 3-4seconds feel the vibration). if that doesnt work, tear off the back, remove the battery (of cource you DO have it removed from the charger now) wait 20 seconds, replace the battery and turn it on, is it working? ok then put the back back on.

it is a fluke, i just showed you how to see it, and usually it is nothing wrong, just your usual high tech psycotics that only us asylum residents can understand :-)

The problem is in themes effects!!!
If themes effects are turned on then there is a problem to turn on or to charge the phone when it is turned off.
So I have to turn off the themes effects before I turn off the phone in order to charge it. If I forget to do it, then I remove the memory card before I start to charge the phone or to turn on the phone.
I have software version 51.0.006.
Hopefully, it works for others

  • Anonymous Oct 10, 2010

In terms of my previous problem.

]For those who have problem with turning on the phone and charging the battery, you can remove the memory card and then turn on the phone or charge.

But, I noticed in my case that the problem is in the application Google maps (ver. 4.01). When this application is installed on the phone and the themes effect are turned on, there exist problem with charging the phone and turning it on. I am not sure about previous versions of Google maps and previous firmwares. So the combination of Google maps and themes effect causes this problem.

I don't know if this is due to the firmware or the application.

I am curious if this happens to others and if this will help o others.

:( Mine went off and never came back to life, Did everything as you all said - battery off, sim card out and none works for me. Im disappointed because my warranty is no longer valid and im going to make a trip to the dealer and find out if it worth to repair or could be better off buying a new phone all together - at the end it would be a double shame on me :(:(:(

After playing a music file downloaded from Nokia my green-white-red lights and shortcut key would not turn off. just take out battery, sim and memory card, wait about 10 seconds and reinstall. All came good. Saved a trip to the dealers who would have sent away for weeks on end. Good luck<!-- from fixya rte -->

SOURCE: My nokia 5800 won't recognise my sim card

This is a new type of phone. Your sim card might be too old for the phone to recognize it. You should go to your carrier and ask for a new sim card. They should be able to replace the old one without extra cost.

I have a nokia 5800 xpressMusic. Made in Korea. Imei is 352012042341890. I am not able to use it in Bangladesh. When i insert SIM card it says "INVALID SIM CARD" Please give me a solution.

Either your sim card is faulty, or more likely your handset is network locked.
You will need to either purchase a new sim card (if sim is problem) or obtain the network unlock code for your phone.

I have nokia xpressmusic 5800 its was working all good til i took my sim card it for a minute then put it back it ,keep saying offline mode .I switch it off like 20 times , I also went to profiles to...

It may be due to network lock,
you can check it with other sim card ,if it remains the same problem ,it may be locked to particular network wont accept any sim card other than the particular network ,you can unlock it and used to other network, try here http://www.mobile-unlocker.com/nokia-5800-xpressmusic/rs2wp9/

If it showing you that sim card registration failed then then make sure your sim card is work or not. if your same Sim card works in different phone. it could be that your phone has been blocked by the network

My nokia 5800 won't recognise my sim card

Test your sim-card in another GSM device. If the other handset accepts the sim-card and will allow you to use the network, then you can determine that your problem is the Nokia 5800 itself. Otherwise, you might need to invest in another sim-card.
