Could be the run winding on the motor...indicating a bad motor. When you press the button, the start winding starts the motor, then the run winding kicks in to run the motor and the start winding turns off (it's no longer needed). You should replace the motor, that would be my first thought.

I have a genie pro 88 garage door opener push the button and it opens just fine traviels up to the limit switch and stops perfect. then push the button to go down and nota,

are the wires connected to the motor correct
for the limit switch there should be one wire ( normally black or neutral going to the center connection and the other wire ( red or active wires going to either of the other two terminals
that set up means that power is available to the limit switches and the return is the neutral wire
it works like this
on the up direction power is delivered to the motor by the controller box through a closed limit switch
when the up limit is circuit is broken the motor stops
the down button reverses the polarity of the motor in the controller box and so the motor runs in reverse through the the lower limit switch until that circuit is broken In the down action the upper limit switch circuit is completer but the control box has no power to it until the lower switch circuit is brokenis broken
the motor is dc voltage and to getting it to go up or down is done by the control box changing polarity for the motor power according to the button position pressed on the remote

HI, AFTER REPLACEING PLASTIC GEARS IN SAERS GARAGE DOOR O[ENER, OPENER WILL NOT GO THROUGH COMPLETE CYCLE. WHEN BUTTON PUSHED TO OPEN, OPENER GOES INTO CLOSE CYCLE AND HITS STOP BOLT. ATTEMPTED TO ADJUST...

Loosen the chain enough so that you can remove it from the sprocket above the motor unit. With the door closed run the motor until the sprocket turns clockwise and stops. With everything attached replace and tighten the chain. Some adjusting of the up and down limits will probably be required.

Replaced drive gear and now with door down and not attached to belt ,i push the button on wall and motor runs for two feet then stops push button again runs a little then stops

Make sure you put the black cup back on the end of the motor shaft and that it is pressed all the way on. Make sure the RPM sensor is plugged in. If neither of these are the issue, then you probably did not have the motor shaft pushed all the way back when you tightened the coupler after replacing the worm gear. Loosen that coupler up and from the front of the motor (opposite end in which the coupler is on) push the shaft back as far as it will go. Hold it there while you tighten the coupler back up and then try it.

You have either a broken door spring or the drive gear in the motor unit is bad. The drive gear is a white nylon gear just in front of the motor and it will be obvious if it is bad.

If the main light flashes 10 times when the door stops it is a door sensor problem. Make sure the small light on each one is lit and not flickering. If the main light doesn't flash you have either a bad IR sensor which is a small printed circuit board just in front of the motor or you need to increase the down force which is a control on the rear of the motor unit.

Lift-Master garage door opener stopped working

The motor will probably need rewinding.
Professional job. Don't forget to take the condensor with the motor.
Or alternatively, if money isn't a problem,, get somebody out to look at it.
There ya go:)

GARAGE DOOR OPENS AND CLOSES ON OWN LT BLINKS SEVERAL TIMES

Anytime a door opens and/or closes by itself I look for a smashed wire between the motor unit and the wall button.

If the wire is smashed the insulation becomes so thin that power will leak thru the insulation and activate the door.

Loosen the staples with a small screwdriver and slide the wire about ½ inch to move any areas of thin insulation away from the staples.

The second thing would be a bad wall button or a remote with a sticking button.
Or a remote in someone’s purse that gets the button pushed by other stuff in the purse.

The test is to disconnect the push button wires at the power unit. If the self operation stops you have located the problem. If you reconnect the wires and disconnect the wire at the wall button this will tell you if the problem is the wire or the button.

This can also interfere with remote controls

HOPE THIS HELPS

Door won't close unless i push button on wall several times

You probably have a stripped gear inside opener. Take off cover and the bottom will be filled with white flakes from stripped gear
