Where is the serial number located on the Nikon D40X

There is a number on the bottom of the camera, but I am not sure if that is the serial number. Also where would I find the serial number for the lenses?

The serial number is on the bottom of the camera. For lenses, the location varies but usually is either near the Nikon logo on the barrel or near the mount. See the photos on this page.

You can purchase an off-camera flash sync adaptor at any good camera store, complete with extension cable.   The should work fine.

SOURCE: Nikon d40x LCD screen stopped working

Have you tried the 'Menu' button? If you've turned off 'Review' in the settings menu, the screen doesn't show anything after you take a picture. If the screen doesn't come on when you push the 'Menu' button with a charged battery installed, your camera will need to be repaired.

SOURCE: Nikon d40x shutter stuck

The manual (pg 112) simply, and unfortunately, states this message "Press shutter release button again. If error persists, consult with Nikon-authorized service representative".

Some questions that might help: have you had the camera in some extreme conditions, damp, sand, etc. Clean the shutter button really well. Maybe use a small air blower and clean in the shutter release creases.

In the end, if the error continues, it will need to be serviced.

Hello. I have the D40X myself and I have had success by going into the menu and locating the reset button. What this does is return the camera to the settings that it had the day it came out of the box. Joe

Nikon D40X stopped auto-focusing yesterday

I had the same problem. My issue was with all my lenses. I solved it by going to the menu and selecting the custom setting menu (pencil icon). Then from the right menu select the AE-L/AF-L and press OK. Then make sure it is set on AE/AF Lock. Presto...all my lenses worked on auto-focus.

Nikon D40X

Push the 'Menu' button, with the camera turned on, then use your joystick (the largest button on the back, which has four positions: up, down, left and right) to scroll up or down until you see the wrench icon which denotes the 'Set Up' menu. Move the joystick to the right to enter the menu, then scroll up or down to select the different features.

Just to let you know, Nikon has tutorial videos available for your camera: http://www.nikondigitutor.com/eng/d40x/index.shtml

They also have the Owner's Manual available: CLICK HERE If you have your serial number available, you can download the printable version, or, if not, you can always download the non-printable version.

Nikon D40X inbuilt flash

If it's withing 30 days, get it exchanged. I have a D70s and it's been working fine for me, maybe something with the D40x with other customers? Take it back to the store and let an "instructor" try it out to make sure it's not a setting.

It's great for the manufacturer to know about any problems so they can get a good sample of problems to help many people. Good luck.
