I have a Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1600. I have a comcast digital box hooked up to my PC. Signal is bad and black and white media. I installed the "current" driver two weeks ago (mid October) Work great! We had to perform a PC recovery. I downloaded the "current" driver. Got weak signal and black and white only.

SOURCE: Connection Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1250 tuner?

you are not going to get anything once you disconnected from the provider. It is the same thing as just pull the cable from the wall.
you can get TV signal (normal basic-brocasted) by using the roof top antenna, I don't know what kind of antenna will be require after 2/09. when the TV broadcast change to digital signal. but in the mean time, you need a converter box from analog to digital for the TV.

Nobody want to pay the monthly fee. if you have the equipment, you can set up the receiving station from the satellite. then you don't have to pay anything. As far as I know, no body have such equipment. cable company spend millions of dollars to set them up, so you have to pay for it.

SOURCE: Digital Transition

It's analog.  You need to purchase a digital receiver.  I personally have a USB external digital tuner running in Media Center 2005.  Search Ebay for "ATSC usb".  There's a lot of different options and most of them are pretty inexpensive.  To use a digital tuner in Media Center 2005, you have to leave the analog tuner / tuners in also.  You should still be able to use your current remote control with the new digital tuner.

SOURCE: WinTV-HVR-1600 Tuner card to DishNetwork receiver

Yes, but what it can connect to depends on what Dish DVR you have. The newer, HD ones only have HDMI, S-Video, and that 5-split coax as outputs for the main TV since you only get these box's if you have and HDTV.

This is because regular old coaxial is no longer good enough for them. This means you must connect the newer DVR's to the S-Video input on the Hauppauge1600 since it is the only input to the card the Dish DVR supports.

If your DVR is older and has the coax out, you can use that and connect it to the Hauppauge analog input.

SOURCE: xp media center says no ntsc tuner installed

Okay, Media center does not work with some Wintv HVR's yet it will work with the software it came with and sometimes media center will use the wintv software to make it work but its sketchy. If you want a more media center compatiable card look at www.microsoft.com website they have a list of media center compatable Tv tuner cards, Trust me I am having the same problem with my tuner card now and its not wintv its a RCA and its under windows 7 this is just the thing here not all card work with media center.

No color from VHS on DVD/VHS player

There may be an input selection between Composite and S-Video that needs to be toggled in your Hauppauge software.

Your Hauppauge card may also be in the wrong signal format mode (NTSC or PAL). Your source device and your Hauppauge card need to be in the same mode (both NTSC or both PAL) for the capture to work properly.

If your NV-VP33 is a SCART output, then you may need to check your SCART adapter and your device as not all devices output both S-Video (Y/C - two signals) and Composite (CVBS - one signal) type signals.

If your SCART adapter has both Composite and S-Video outputs, try the other one.

And finally... if you're playing an NTSC tape/DVD in a PAL player, it doesn't mean the output is true NTSC 3.58. Most times it's NTSC 4.43 which is OK for TVs, but NOT okay for video capture devices. Video capture devices need true NTSC 3.58 to sync the color carrier properly.
