Is this a tablet? You can do a factory reset by holding the power and volume down or up bottons at the same time for a few seconds. At first it will t Reset keep holding the bottons a few more seconds until the factory reset option comes up. It will erase everything and give a fresh start.
Same problem happens to me when I insert something into one of my computer's USB ports, such as a flash drive, it doesn't get recognized. This happens with things other than just a flash drive as well, like my iPod. I have numerous USB ports on my computer, but they all act the same. I'll insert a flash drive and even after it's not automatically recognized, I'll go into "My Computer" and it shows all the "Removable Disk" drives as being empty. I'll click on one and a prompt will come up and say, "Please insert a disk into drive F" or whatever drive I happen to click on. reboot while holding the option key down. It should show you available hard drives from which you can startup. Choose the drive and then press return or enter. Then restart. If nothing happens, turn off the laptop and insert your Mac OS disk and then reboot while holding down the C key. The computer will load the system on the disc instead of your hard drive. Then instead of reinstalling the system software, look at the top menu and find the Disk Utilities program and run a repair on your hard drive. Then reboot without the disk in the drive.

you might switch one of the botton on a side of your usb. In my case hold botton, just push it in opposite side and then insert ir on you computer....then you can format it
lol thats not how .... switch the hold switch on, press and hold func botton press play while holding then turn on the mpio while holding after that a screen saying"preceed to format? press rec hold for N secs til screen pops up saying that its doing a low level format
