Installed nvidia 950gt (pci) card into a dell opriplex gx260. I can use dual monitor if onboard is enabled. When onboard, bios sees 9500gt but goes blank after DELL splash screen.(Cannot even enter setup, goes blank)

You don't have to order a 'dell' brand power supply, just make sure you replace it with one more powerful with the same connection types... but before you do that, try changing the bios setting from 'auto' and specify the first video device to be the PCI-e, or AGP... depending on the type of card that you're putting in there.

Is the PCI Express Slot a 2.0 x16? that could be the issue not positive those cards will work without that specific slot Also check on the graphics card for a 6Pin plug usually they wont work well with out it hooked up to the power supply the plug should say PCI-Epress 1 or 2 good luck!

Theren is nothing wrong with your computor if it is working fine with the on board graphics. your Graphics card is sadly damaged for sure somehow either by heating or voltage fluctuation or some other problem. this is a hardware problem and not a software one, so updating the graphics driver wont help. check if your card is in warranty period and get it replaced or repaired by contacting dell. as far as i know dell replaces damaged components for free within 3 years, you need to check up with them.

Hi,
Boot the system in safe mode. Go to device manager and under display adapters , right click on the onbaord graphics adapter and disable the same. It worked on one of the systems i troubleshot for the same problem.
Thanks for using Fixya

Yes, yes, I've done all that... lol Vios only gives Auto/Onboard ; with Onboard ON (Not Auto-where it selects the GT as primary) I load into WinXP and can dual monitor. On Auto I get 1) Recognotion of card and 512 MB RAM 2) DELL Splash 3) option to select Settings or Boot Options. Regerdless of what I do, i.e. press F2 or F10 the screen blinks and monitor loses signal... I now have Onboard and boot to WinXP then I disabled the onboard card, until I can solve this... Thx for input...
it's stumbling too soon. is the PC power supply adequate and all the right aux power leads connected?
