Toshiba satellite P15-S420 odd power & freezing problems

I bought a used toshiba satellite P15-S420 that i reformatted with a new copy of windows xp that i bought a year ago and never used. then downloaded the drivers from toshiba's site, and installed sp3 for xp.
the odd problems are when i try to shut it down or restart it through windows it freezes on the final step (after "saving your settings") on "windows is now shutting down". i can shut it down by holding the power button down for five seconds, though. another odd problem is when i do get it shut down, if i don't unplug the ac power cord it will randomly start up on its own. it does get quite hot. i checked, and both fans are working properly. i blew them out with compressed air. idk. anyone have any suggestions?

How to replace dc power jack for toshiba p15

Take apart laptop and see what type of jack is on your system. There are two types. one is soldered on and the other is a module that connects to the motherboard with a wire connector.

If you have a soldered on type the you will need to de-solder it from the board then solder a new one onto the board. most ac jack issue just need to resolder it unless the jack itself is broken.

My Toshiba p15S420 won't fully boot-cannot open the CD rom drive.

cd tray button dead? means power failure. step one is remove that old bad shorted huge battery first. and run on AC pack only(even forever) bad power pack (or wrong kind) bad power jack on PC side it for sure needs service, guessing is not possible (or very expensive) if the P15-s420 (the dash matters ok./) Satellite P15-S420 (is the full name ok?) a true relic with only XP OS loaded. XP is trash, a pure virus magnet. 15 years old today. all batteries inside and outside are bad 15 years old not one will be good, and that is bad. the HDD will be bad too as will the CCFL LCD back lamps bad.(black screens forever) 2004 made, a pure relic with zero value.

worse yet is the DC jack is soldered down and all are cracked now. all are, if not parked on shelf for 15 years.
a better PC has pig tail jack that lasts 10x longer.
like HP 8540 has. and all top grade HP and Dell have.
not this toy grade old laptop

How do I change the battery on the motherboard? Toshiba p15-s420

That will require a soldering iron, and a another battery with the same numbers. It is not a user replaceable part. the unit will have to be disassembled to access the battery properly.
