Start Normally (black screen with options)keeps re-loading itself

Compaq Presario SR2019 keeps reloading the black screen with options - i.e. 'Windows Start Normally' 'Safe Mode. etc. No new software or hardware added. Running Windows XP, Norton Security.
Whole bunch of Geeks baffled - help!!

    DCF - The prob is, it won't let you do anything. It just keep rotating saying a problem occurred, and restarting itself in the black window. It won't even let you start in safe mode.

    BB - The prob is with that, is no back-up discs, and an earlier back-up disc we did have the machine won't read. Nothing happened to the computer. It was manhandled, dropped or anything, nothing new was added or subtracted from the hardware/software.

If you can't get into windows normally or into safe mode to try to restore the system back to a date when it worked properly then you'll need to wipe out the hard drive and start the system from scratch.

Try starting the computer in safe mode. Turn on the computer and once the COMPAQ screen clears press F8 a few times - don't hold down the key however. Winodws stops loading at teh Startup Options screen (black, text only). From that menu use the cursor keys and ENTER to select "Safe Mode". Once Windows loads (it may look humungous!), login as the Administrator (which should now be visible). Use this account to reset your forgotten user password. Restart once complete - the computer will automatically start normally.

My Compaq presario f572us notebook screen turns black upon normal startup. The screen does not turn black if I start-up in the safe mode. It only when i attempt to start windows normally. Everything loads...
i also have a compaq presario f572us that's been having similar problems. when i went onto the hp website i saw that apparently they've been having similar problems with this type of computer as they offer free repairs for 2 years after you bought it. you should probably check if this works for you too

It could be your hard drive problem. Which I called it, "Crash." I would suggest you try to format the hard drive and reload the operation system with your installation CD.

suspected hard disk faulty or OS corrupted.
to check, take out your hard disk and put it in other laptop. if the problem persist your OS is corrupted. In that case, you need to reformat your OS in a defaulty factory settings.

My computer starts up perfectly fine, i click the " start windows normally" button, and it loads. Then after loading the screen turns black ( I can still see the LED light and cursor) PLEASE HELP!
When it ask you how you want to start the computer the select Last known Good Configuration. It should boot up normally.
Then go o the control Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager and check for any devices that didn't install (the ones with the yellow ?)
You will need to reinstall these drivers.

Starting problem
start pc...after bios screen loads press F8 in order to get to safe mode options......in the list there is an option to repair windows startup problems...choose that option....it takes a little while to repair so be patient but your machine should start normally
