Windows says not enough space on pny 8 gig flash drive

I borrowed an 8 gig pny flash drive from a friend of mine that he just bought to transfer some rather large files from my pc to his. Problem is, I have an iso which is 4.5 gigs and even without anything on the drive it says not enough free space. Anyone know what I could do besides have him return the drive??

Try formatting the drive as NTFS instead of FAT32 (assuming you are using it only on Windows computers). FAT32 doesn't support files over 4GB.

For more info, see http://www.google.com/search?q=fat32+file+size+limit

Windows XP didn't allow me to format in NTFS either. Vista did though.

Plug in the drive -go to my computer and find it right click and go properties - look for folder options -choose show hidden folders -- you will probably find a folder called( trash) delete it and you should get your space back

New pny 4 gig won't work with windows 98. Old 1 gig ones will. Can they be made to work?

Hello,

Windows 98 does not support Fat 32 4gb Partitions. You can try to partition the card into multiple 1gb partition's but would suggest upgrading the system.

Thanks

The hard disk inside that Spire case has died - running the free space clean from CCleaner (a very intensive procedure) has been the death blow to an already sick disk.. Nothing more can be done to save it and the data on it. Replace it with a new one.

Ihave an 8 gig maxwell flash drive, i have formatted it. when i try to transfer files on to it it says there is not enough space.

test whether another flash drive accepts it or not if accepts then change the drive because virus may damaged your flash drive so always use flash drive by taking backup on cd and formatting contineusly virus should not stay in drive

Then you will have to use a diskette or a CD, download the driver on some other computer, unpack and copy it to the diskette or burn on a CD-R.

Memory to low on c drive message pops up even after I transferred most of my files to d drive

Are you referring to the virtual memory or just disk space? Assuming you are on Windows, even after transferring files, the space might not be enough. You can change the pagefile size (virtual memory) or just transfer enough files and even move your temp directory to D. That way the partition/drive with OS will have enough space. Now a days keep at least one gig free there. It usually starts complaining when it gets close to 500 MB.

Memory loss

It seems to me that when the drive was partitioned, the whole thing was not partitioned. If using Windows XP you can go under the Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Computer Management and then Disk Management. You should be able to see the drive and if any unpartitioned space is available.
