I just got a new Onkyo tx-sr706. When I turn it on, it immediatly turns off (about 3 seconds).
I followed the manual (which was strange to me that this was a problem listed in the troubleshooting part of the manual) unplugged it for one hour. Plugged it back in, same problem.
Is there a solution?
Also, I bought it from the bankrupt Circuit City, but it was an unopened box.

The problem is not with the inputs. This unit is in protect because a problem has been detected in the output section. Try disconnecting the speaker wires and turning it on. If the unit remains on, there is a short in one of the speaker wires. If the unit still shuts down, there is an internal problem that will require repair. It sounds like this is a new piece. If so, it should be covered under warranty.
Keep us posted,

SOURCE: Onkyo TX-DS989 not staying on
This sounds like the action of some protection circuit that is monitoring some condition or voltage that isn't within its design limits. If it was mine, I'd look for an Onkyo forum to see if others have experienced the same problem.

Monitor out is non assignable. Monitor out is for the purpose of putting your selected devices audion and video out to the television or display. For assinment of out putting different devices that what you are listening to on the main stereo unit you need to have a 2nd room or zone output.
SOURCE: 2 month old ONKYO TX-SR706 speaker circuit problem
This is a problem with the surround sound processing. Effectively the digital signal is not being processed properly. Since this unit is so new, return it and request either an exchange or at least warranty service. The DSP board will likely be replaced.

SOURCE: Onkyo TX-SR706; Turntable output only from one speaker
Try some troubleshooting to check whether its the turntable or the the receiver.
What happens if you exchange the output cables of the turntable from left to right. Does the problem shift?
Does the sound changes from left to right speaker?
Similarly try on the inputs of the Receiver.. does the problem shift...?
This way you will be able to isolate the problem, whether with the receiver or the turntable....
Let me know, we can trouble shoot it further....

We tried hooking it up with nothing plugged in (except the power, of course) and got the same results.
Thanks, but my son is taking it back and going to try to swap it. Turns out, we think it was an open box that had been retaped. Go figure.

I just posted it today, Onkyo TX-SR606 would not "stay on"
Onkyo tx sr 706 Everytime I start playing a dvd or media through a hd player, the screen goes blue and there is a 'no signal' msg displayed after about 2-3 minutes. This is random withrespect to time and input device. Im using only hdmi cables for all connections.
have you tried to turn it on with nothing connected to it?
