My Electrolux Epic 6500 SR won't stay on. It'll start, but shuts itself off. The vacuum bag light is eluminated as well as the plug light. My bag is empty and the filter is new. The vaccum is still fairly new as hasn't been used much. I had another Electrolux before this one that lasted 25 years and now my sister has it. Have never had problems before. This is very unusual. Any ideas on how to get it started again??
When you open the canister you eill see a little rubber hole that senses when your bag is full. This must be clogged. If you have another vac try to vacume all the dusr from this hole and any other opening inside the vacume that you can reach. I hope this helps. Don't forget to rate this answer.

As hooton8 stated i have the electrolux epic 6500 sr. as well and when i attempt to vacuum i turn it on and it turns off after about 3 seconds. new bag nothing stuck in tube. I turned dial to the right all the way. Works when hose is not connected..hose is clear.
It means to check the bag. Your bag is either missing or misaligned and has slipped past the little clear sensor or bag lockout plunger in the corner of the bag chamber at the door. Remove the bag turn on the vac and push this switch, the vac should start when the switch is depressed. If not the internal switch inside the vac is misaligned or damaged. Please post back to confirm how you make out
You need an Electrolux Cannister bag to fit pre 2001 Series cannisters. You can fin them at a VAC Service center or thru AERUS Electrolux. Buy only a 4 ply bag, nothing thinner.
When the bag is full, the "full bag" light will come on and will turn itself off. Replace bag (make sure there is no clog) and try again. Hope this helps.
The problem was a sticking switch that was not being reset. The vacuum on/off switch mechanism is comprised of two switches. One is the main switch that turns the vacuum on and off. The second is a shut off switch that gets tripped when the full bag sensor is engaged. This second switch is supposed to get reset when you push the on/off switch on the outside of the machine. The full bag shutoff switch was stiff and it, therefore, was taking a couple of presses of the on/off switch to move the shutoff switch back into the running position.
