Yes, operative limit switches inside the unit are activated by the latch, without the latch in place, the unit operates as if the door is open.

Hello there sometimes this could be the door latch because on some microwaves they microwave wont let you use it in till the door is shut but with the latch missing i knows the door isn't shut, you could try putting something small in the hole where that latch goes and see if the display lights up ( DON'T TURN ON MICROWAVE WITH DOOR OPEN) ie like a small screw driver flat head of course, if you cant get it to light up dont worry in till the door get there then you will know for sure if its a separate problem

Hope This Helps Cheers

This is because of the broken latch. There are switches inside the oven that are operated by the door latches to make sure you're not trying to use the oven with the door open. With the new door, your oven should be back to normal.

Whirlpool double wall oven microwave door wont close

Try this link ... owners manual ... go to page 15

https://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/user-manuals/gsc309pvs02-whirlpool-parts-manual

It shows how to remove the door and talks about how to release the latches.
It sounds like whomever cleaned it ... may have removed the door and not reinstalled it correctly??

tip

Maytag MMV4205 door won't stay shut.

After tearing apart my microwave, I found a little spring broke off the latches. Open the door to the microwave, pop off the plastic piece that the latches on the door go through. You will see a spring behind the latch. If the spring is not connected to the latch it won't operate properly. The spring was held onto the latch with a tiny plastic piece that broke off. An easy solution instead of buying a new latch is to heat up one side of the spring without burning yourself and melt it through the latch piece where it was originally connected then put everything back together.
Hope this helps,

Pushed in spring loaded latch on the microwave. Need to pull it back out. Spring is not broke.

No, you don't have a new problem to fix, and consider yourself and anyone else that uses that microwave lucky.

Depending on where that crack is you need to know that the screen like structor in the door is actually a choke to stop and microwave energy from escaping, including anything around it. They are designed to stop any stray microwave energy from leaving the microwave. This could harm you so if it is anyware near that door choke, if I were you I would order another door. The same goes for the gasket around the inside of the door it to is a choke.

You are also causing yourself some potential danger because the door must never be circumvented to keep the light on or off because if you should accidently start the microwave then you will have problems.

Emerson microwave door latch

I have an Emerson MW8999RD that all of a sudden yesterday wouldn't latch. I don't think you have to, but I took the door off (three screws hold the case on which needs to be removed to get at the top hinge). Then I took off the inner plastic picture frame - pretty easy with a thin blade to move the fragile tabs. Then I removed the metal frame that has the little microwave blocking holes. This was the hardest part because the plastic retaining tabs are even more fragile and I broke one. Then I found the loose spring due to broken plastic hook as described above. I was able to make a new hook by simply looping a small zip tie where the old plastic hook tip broke off. Now works great!

I have a door latch on my whirlpool microwave that has broke several times. We have glued it back several times due to I am a cheap *** and don't want to buy the whole door. Well luckily my dad lo

Please Heidi,

FOR SAFETY REASONS...
It is vital that you have all covers in place and the MICROWAVE fully contained at all times when operating.

You have a high frequency radio there...

It is best to always have a substantial amount (like a cup of water) to absorb the energy...

The best thing that can happen with the energy... it will turn back on the magnetron (source) and COOK ITSELF...

The worst... you will be feeling your own
eyeballs getting WARM.

BE SAFE (please).

My whirlpool microwave Gold's door is stuck shut. the button to open the door presses in without any tension and the door will not unlock or open

If this is an undercounter unit remove it from the mounts. Remove the case and look at the rear of the display/control area. You should be able to see the door latch. If not remove the electronics in that section of the unit. When you can see the latch you should be able to get the door open. If the unit is not working (latch wise) you will need to get a new one. Try www.repairclinic.com they have parts for everything at a good price. Getting the door lock out will require a little thinking on your part but you should be able to accomplish it. Let me know if you need more help.
