Automatic mode (using the supplied USB cable) - Enables the headset's advanced features for the PS3. Using automatic mode, you can pair the headset with any PS3, but only the most recently paired PS3 will be saved in the headset's list of paired devices.
Bluetooth discovery mode - Sets up the headset as a standard Bluetooth headset. By using Bluetooth discovery mode you can pair the headset with many other Bluetooth devices.
A Bluetooth headset has to be registered, or "paired",
with your PS3 before it can be used.
Make sure your
Bluetooth headset is fully charged before you begin.
Check
your headset instructions for entering "pairing mode". Activate your
headsets' "pairing mode" so it can be recognized by the PS3.
On
the Cross Media Bar (or XMB) of the PS3 go to the "Settings" tab, then
down into "Accessory Settings", then down into "Manage Bluetooth
Devices".
With your headset in pairing mode, follow
the onscreen instructions and let the PS3 scan for your headset. When
your headset is found, follow the prompts and enter a pass key (if
necessary- the default is usually 0000 for all brands). The pairing
should now be complete.
If the Headset has been paired with
another Bluetooth device, the PS3 will have trouble finding the Headset.
Either remove the Headset from the paired device or turn off the
Bluetooth power on the paired device.
Pairing the Headset with the PS3 Before
the Headset can be used with the PS3, the two devices must be ‘paired’
so they can communicate with each other. Use a gaming controller for
this procedure and ensure that the Headset is powered on (flashing blue
LED light) and that it is not being charged via USB cable.
1. Power on your PS3 console.
2. Within the “Settings” menu, press X on “Accessory Settings.”
3. Press X on the icon labeled: “Manage Bluetooth® Devices.”
4. Scroll down and press X on the icon labeled: “Register New Device.”
IMPORTANT:
Depending on your model of the 8860 Bluetooth® Headset, your power
button is either an oval shape with an icon of a circle with a line
going through it (5a) or it is a button with a phone icon (5b). Please
follow the appropriate next step depending on your model of the 8860.
5a.
Once at the next screen, prepare the Headset to be paired with the PS3
by holding down the K1 button until the LED flashes Blue and Red (hold
K1 approx 12 seconds).
5b. Once at the next screen, prepare the
Headset to be paired with the PS3 by tapping the pairing button located
next to the volume controls on the side until the LED flashes BOTH Blue
and Red.
6. Once the Headset’s LED indicator is alternately
flashing Blue and Red (indicating the Headset is ready to be paired),
press X on “Start Scanning.”
7. Once Scan is complete, the PS3 will recognize all Bluetooth devices within range.
8. Locate “8860” from the list of available devices and press X on its icon to be prompted for a Pass Key
9. Enter 0000 (four zeros) as the Pass Key and press X on OK
10. You should then be taken to a new screen stating: “Register completed”
Trouble Shooting Q. The PS3 is unable find the Headset. A.
If the Headset has been paired with another Bluetooth device, the PS3

the paired device or turn off the Bluetooth power on the paired device.
PS3 supports Bluetooth V2.0, in fact the Playstation branded headset is V2.1. All versions of Bluetooth are backwards compatible. Are you sure that the headset is going into proper pairing mode?

I managed to pair my X3 Micro headset to the PS3. I had to get on line to find the devices code because I had forgotten it, but after entering the right code the PS3 hooked it up and I have been insulting those who kill me online ever since :P
You have to do 2 things in order to use a bluetooth headset on your ps3. First you have to pair it with the ps3. To do this you go to your setting and register the bluetooth device. Make sure your bluetooth device is in pairing mode when you do this. On most headsets you can simply hold down the button until the light comes on a solid color. once it is in pairing mode you will have to scan for new devices. Once this is done you should see the headset on the list. Choose it and enter your pairing code. If you have not set one it will most likely be 0000. Once it is it paired you will have to change your audio output and input. Go to audio device settings and change the input and output device to your headset name. Enjoy!
