My husband bought the Shift 3 projection alarm clock/radio, but we cannot find out how to open the remote that is supposed to go outside for the weather. The instruction manual for the clock is totally useless. All it says is to take the battery cover off the remote to put in the batteries. I would do that if I could find out how to take the cover off. HELP!!! The info on the back says that it comes from MerchSource, llc in Foothill Ranch, CA
Once the batteries are installed in the remote the temp will appear in the LED screen. Now you are ready to link signals between the main unit and the remote. Simply remove one of the two triple A batteries from the main unit and then replace. You should then see what appears to be a flashing object shaped like a kite with a tail while the two units link up. Then you should see the temp reading at the remote appear in the LED readout at the main unit. By the way there is also a very small reset at the top of the switches on the back of the main unit that can be depressed with a SMALL pointed object like a scissor point or safety pin point.
There are four small phillips head screws that hold on the back cover. Just take a small phillips screw driver, unscrew the screws, remove the cover and insert two (2) AAA batteries. My problem is that the main unit does not recieve the outside temperature from the sensor.
Overall it's pretty good product if you know how to use it, considering the price. The manual sucks! There are two little buttons inside the remote, one is for testing the link. Also you need to reset the main clock for remote radio signal.
Yeah, the manual sucks. You have to actually take out the four tiny screws that are set really deep into the remote's housing. I haven't gotten any farther than that yet myself. I was looking online for a better alternative to this recent purchase because I foresee it being a dud.
I found that if you thump the remote sensor pretty hard with your index finger the real temperature displays...but soon it defaults back to its original reading of 74.3 degrees no matter if you're at the North Pole or the equator. Ditto to everything that has been said so far about this product, cheap, the manual is a joke, can't find a web address for troubleshooting, screws too far in and too tight, etc. Batteries have to be inserted in the remote sensor before they're inserted in the base station in order for the base station to read the remote sensor. I say, take it back and get a good quality weather station...its worth the money.
I found you to be correct that the remote needs to have the batteries in first , I removed the batteries from main unit and then pulled the power plug waited a few minutes put back normal power then the batteries and now I get the outside temp . I adjusted the time and date all is great working fine .thanks for the help I don,t recommend thumping

The screws on the one I bought were apparently installed by an overzealous worker with a power screwdriver. They're driven in too tight - the screws are of such poor quality that the heads strip out when you try to back out the screws. Junk.
No, only the outside is displayed.
Can we see both temperature indoor and outdoor alternativly with the projection mode??????
I am so sorry to read all of you who are having a problem with setting up your shift3 clock. I just followed the simple steps in the manual and it is working fine. I do have to admit the 4 screws from the remote were a little tough to remove but a little patience and you will be successfull. Good luck! Too bad the clock is not radio contolled.
Received this clock as a Christmas present; installed the 3 AAA battieries in the outside sensor & the back of the clock & low & behold; it worked for both temps inside & out all thru the cold months after December until the summer heat arrived! You can adjust the projection light to the ceiling with the vertical roller wheel on the upper back of the clock. To open the outside temp sensor; if the tiny screws are a problem just place the end of a small flat end screw driver & twist it along the edges of the plastic case until it pops off as the screws are simple self tapping but very tedious to get out, I can open it with my finger nails now & it pops back on as tight as with the screws! Now, for some reason, I only get the inside temp & nothing outside at all..am stumped!! Maybe it only works better in the cold weather months for outside but unhappy with it now?!?! Had it located inside my gas grill on the back porch. Simply laid it on the grill spines & closed the top all winter so the rain, snow, etc. wouldn't get it wet & as cheap as the plastic case is without a rubber seal; & eventually it will happen in the open.

I saw the screws with a flashlight, but barely. I can't even see them enough to see what little screwdriver will work, but I have taken things apart with that little of screws before. I would never have known they were in there. Yea the manual totally sucks. I was going to call the company that distributes them, and I still will because I want to let them know what a dud their product is. I guess that's what you get when you buy from China, but then most everything is anymore. I hope there isn't any lead in this clock. hehe

I got the batteries in the remote and put it up outside. Success it works, but boy is it a cheap product. We have popcorn ceilings, so projecting the time is going to be hard to read. Now I have to plug it in the bedroom. I was trying to see if you can set the alarm to have the radio come on for Alarm 1 and the beep for Alarm 2, but I don't think so.
In the projection mode we see the time and the outdoor temperature. No matter, my husband is taking the clock back. It's a pain, and doesn't work right.
Me, too. So, we are supposed to unscrew the teeny, tiny screws to get to the batteries? Thank You! (This site is as close as I have been able to come to finding any answers. I cannot locate the company web address- only the distribution address).
I received an email about my problem, but it shows the La Crosse clock. That is not my problem. My problem is with the Shift 3 projection alarm clock. The instruction manual is bogus, and it does not show how to open the remote to put the batteries in. We don't see anyway to open the cover without breaking it. We can't use it if we can't put in the batteries.
