We have the Maytag portable dishwasher, PDC3600AWE (aka PDC3600A). It is only 2 years 10 months old. The dish racks are already rusting badly, the coating has come off at several location and the inside is very rusted from normal light use. This is hard to believe, one would think that Maytag would make sure to use stainless steel or a better coating, since dishwasher racks are exposed to water daily and who wants rust and other toxins in their dishes?
Anyone know where one can get cheap but good/safe racks? I will give Maytag a call, although the warranty for this model only says 1 year with no mention of rust. Lets see if they stand behind their product and brand name or if try to find excuses not to replace the racks. If they don't resolve this issue for me, I will say adios to Maytag forever and will happily advertise my ordeal.
I just find it hard to believe that over $420 have gone down the drain with Maytag in a little over 2 years, this is ridiculous, these things last years and decades.
This is Maytags solution
Do the dishwasher racks have chips or scratches showing exposed metal underneath?
If minor rack repairs are needed, a dishwasher rack repair kit just
might work. To review this product or purchase the kit, click here.
Should you purchase the kit online, enter Promo Code F9A75Q4 in the Review Order screen when you check out to receive a 10% discount on your order.
For more severe rack damage, a replacement rack may need to be
purchased; call the Maytag Customer eXperience Center toll-free at
1-866-616-2601, Monday-Friday, 8AM-6PM, Eastern Time.
I would call the toll free number and see if a free replacement is available. If not at least try to get a big discount on replacing them.
Good luck and thanks for using Fix Ya, please take the time to rate this solution (from Fix Ya, not Maytag, I didn't like their solution).

Thank you clarkco, believe it or not, I called Maytag and complained to them. I told them that with the dishwasher being less than 3 years old, I was hoping they would stand behind their product. They first offered me 50% off (i.e. $150 for both the racks), but when I told them that with the dishwasher being so new, I wasn't willing to spend any more money on it. At that point, since the dishwasher was less than 3 years old and its their high end Maytag, they decided to replace the racks for me free. And they did so knowing fully well that they could have easily refused as the warranty period was long gone. Needless to say, I am impressed with the fact that they stood behind their product when many other manufacturers would throw the warranty book at you. I hope they've redesigned the racks since then and the rust issue is history on the new dishwashers. If i'm not mistaken, the new dishwashers come with a 5 year rust warranty which is great.
