Hello. It's not a picture setting, it's a format, or picture size setting. Look for a button on the remote labeled Format, or Size, or Zoom, or something similar. You want to select 16:9, or Full, or whatever fills the screen without zooming.
These are generic instructions for all TV's and all Remotes:
1. Press 'Menu' key on Remote (or 'Setup' key).
2. Go to Setup, View, or Picture tab (whichever one you've got in your Remote's Menu or Setup)
3. Change your Zoom or View aspect.
NOTE: Depending on the dimensions of your TV, you simply may not be able to view the entire picture using a correct aspect ratio (NOT stretched). On my 42" RCA is use a 4:3 Zoom setting to fill my screen but, it chops a little bit off the top & bottom. It's the best I can do with my current setup.
It seems like you're expecting a 16:9 ratio picture. If you're sending a 4:3 ratio signal to the TV, you'll get a 4:3 ratio picture. An option would be to use the remote and set the TV to a 16:9 ratio picture, but that'll stretch the picture and make everything look fat. Another option would be to use the remote and zoom in, but that'll chop off the top/bottom of the picture a bit. Either case would be annoying. Some make matters even more annoying, some programs are broadcasted in a 16:9 ratio signal, but the actual picture is really 4:3 ratio. So...... as long as the pictures don't look skinny, fat, or chopped off, just accept it. If you're really that picky, just watch new Blu Ray movies only.
i had the same problem and i bought the new remote control and it did work at first i thought it was going to do the same thing but then i pushed the tv/use button and it worked perfectly.
my tv just went to a blue screen one day. I can turn it on and then it will just remain on the blue screen. Any button (except the volume) I push on the remote comes up on the screen "no signal". What would you suggest? I have been reading about replacing a fuse or board? Most of those are on the 42 inch version---I have teh 37 inch version.
Make sure that you haven't pressed input by mistake i.e going onto scart or pc input press TV on the remote and try this. also check that the scart cable is fully inserted into the TV as well as the digi box or VCR or what ever. The control board part number is TV-5210-57 and retails for $214.45
