Poor Signal Strength!

I just bought Netgear WPN824V3 and now my Xbox 360 gets NO Bars at times and netflix does not load. My old router WGR614V6 never had this issue. Why would a newer router that is supposed to have better range and be faster be doing this? My PS3 show 70%-100% when this issue is occuring with the Xbox 360. The PS3 does go down to 50% at times. Have shut off advanced features, changed channels, made it G only. Still I have this issue. The Xbox works best on channel 11 but still has NO bars but Netflix shows 4 bars of video quality odd. Any advice on how to increase the signal strength. Thanks..

My x box 360 keeps freezing ans saying you are disconnected from xbox live, what do i do ?

If your screen freezes when playing on Xbox LIVE, the problem may be related to your Internet connection. A weak wireless signal can cause poor Xbox LIVE performance. If you are using wireless connection:
1. Go to My Xbox and select System Setttings. 2. Select Network Settings. 3. Select Wired Connection or the name of your wireless network. 4. Select Test Xbox LIVE Connection.
If your wireless signal is only one or two bars, try improving your signal strength by following the suggestions below.
  • Move your router or gateway off the floor and away from walls and metal objects such as metal file cabinets).
  • Minimize obstructions along a straight-line path between your Xbox and your wireless router or gateway.
  • Shorten the distance between your console and your wireless router or gateway. Ideally, your network hardware should be near the center of your home.
  • Change the position of the antenna on your Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapter (external adapter only).
  • Turn off wireless devices. If your router uses the 2.4 GHz band, try turning off wireless devices, such as 2.4 GHz cordless telephones and Bluetooth devices.
  • Try changing your wireless channel. Wireless routers and gateways can broadcast on different channels and one channel might be clearer than another. See your hardware documentation for help changing wireless channels.
  • Add a wireless repeater to extend your wireless network range. You can boost your signal strength by placing a wireless repeater halfway between your router or gateway and your console.
  • Add an Xbox 360 Wireless N Networking Adapter.
  • Switch wireless signal bands. If you have a dual-band router and an external wireless adapter, try switching the router to a wireless protocol that transmits on the 5 GHz band (wireless protocol A or N). Please see your hardware documentation for help with changing the wireless protocol.
  • Switch to a cable.

In regards to your weak signal count how many walls are actually between the router and your XBOX because this can effect your signal strength. You may need to move the router into a more open area.

As for the network adapter running in G mode and not N mode if you have any G wireless devices connecting to the network this will bring the router down to G mode. So ether you will have to run a G mode or upgrade your other devices to an N network card. Another option would be to get another router or access point to set one closer to you XBOX to get a better signal.

In regard to accessing your video and music files on your computer you do not have to open a port your firewall but set the XBOX as approved device. If you go to this link it will help you get your system setup properly.

Loses connection w. remote computer I have a laptop one room away. The laptop accesses the internet and printers from this location. Most of the time it works. However, it will suddently lose the conection...

Check if this router is stronng enough interms of it signals. Check on the laptop the signal strength of the conenction.

If the signal strength is poor you can either move closer to the wireless router or vice versa or can get an access poitn to boost the signal.

Please rate if helpful.

Have a new desk top bought the wireless-g usb adapter wg111 to pick up my netgear range max wireless router wpn824v3. After installing the wireless-G picked up internet once but after the system was shut...

I have the WPN824v3 and it can be balky finding and connecting to a network sometimes. It works best (and gets the best range) using the Netgear RangeMax Wireless USB 2.0 adapter (WPN111). The router and this adapter are (according to Netgear) specifically designed to work with each other, thereby maximizing both the range and the speed of the router.

Xbox live connection keeps crashing.

Hi,

problems usually happen, when the signal strength drops.
I,d suggest hard-wiring the 360 to the PC or router, for optimal performance.

Thankyou for using fixya.

Connecting Wgr614v6 router to xbox 360

This error is related to the update of the xbox360 website or a router problem.
Try disable all encryption and MAC filtering on the router and see if you can connect unprotected.
