I bought a 32inc LCD Samsung yesterday and after 5 minutes of working the screen went blank (still has sound) and started flicking between the colours red, blue, green, white, black and the black and white chequered squares.

It is a new tv.Take it back where u bought it and trade it in for another tv.This tv have those 2 LCD long inverter boards have problems.These 2 long LCD inverter boards are to help the tv LCD screen panel to have a backlight for the tv LCD screen to produced a picture.
If this is a flat panel LCD tv, this is a sure sign that the panel itself is bad. I have seen this before. Tv comes on works fine then within 5 minutes goes blank.
Sounds like the circuit board may need to be replaced. Mine did a similiar thing only my picture turned upside down, screen went blank yet had good voice. Samsung tech said the 2 circuit boards were bad and had to be replaced at a cost of $780 in parts plus labor. I bought a new LCD TV, not Samsung.
