I had the same problem a couple months ago---i couldnt figure out why it wasnt draining. It kept saying "F-21"...well i called a "expert" and all it was was the lent trap inside needed cleaning....which isnt in the manual.....it is located in the back---truthfully im not sure where.....you have to remove a bolt and some screws and pull off the back and then clean it......hopefully some of this helped you...
This is joyce:
ok I did some research for you and this is what I found first of all does the light on the spin cycle come on while you have it in spin cycle? it is either one or 2 things, well maybe 3 but we hope not the 3rd, 1st lets try the very simple step, the door, the lock switch which goes out on a lot of washers. replace that or if it's not that you will have to replace the machine control board and the third is the wiring harness. but first you will have to siphion the water out of the machine you will have to do that from the back of the machine. go to your manuel or online to maytag epic manuel and download one and it will show you how to do it. get water out. unplug the machine first.... plug back up hopefully the door will open now.if not you will have to call a technician to help.
I hope I have been some help

It is a common fault that the drain fails to work in
most machines in a period of time and is the most problematic fault in a
washing machine. In all occasions it is important that your observation is most
important and so is vital to the identification /rectification and solution. If
you have noticed that water has leaked then as the drain hose pump/valve and
fittings are located on the underside of the machine it is important that you
look for possible leaks here. In some cases the drain hose would be clogged at
the drain end to outlet of the house and so there will be back flushing
resulting in overflow to the outside. Also the drain pump/valve can be clogged.
Now remove the drain hose clamps and remove the drain pump/valve, clean the
drain pump/valve, use back flushing to clear off all dirt. Now test using power
to see if this works and can be simulated. When refitting, the hose must be tightened
properly. If the pump/valve does not work even with power then it must be
replaced. If there is intermittent power
to the drain valve/pump then the program controller unit is a suspect.

Finally the washer must be placed with a tilt- use a
spirit level- so that all water will drain to the outlet port and thereby there
is no residual water remaining.

Hi
Error
code SD/5d means LONG DRAIN. This error appears when the drain time exceeds 8
minutes and the water valves turn off. After 4 minutes the "Sd" error
will be displayed, and then 4 minutes later the F21 error code will be
displayed. Press PAUSE/CANCEL two times to clear the display. Please Check the
drain hose and make sure it is not plugged or kinked. If the drain hose if fine
then unplug the washer and check the electrical connections at the pump and
make sure the pump is running. Check the drain pump filter for foreign objects.
To access the drain pump and filter remove the front kick panel and trace the
drain hose to the bottom of the washer, drain pump would be located there. If
you are not able to access it, then replace the back panel as well. Plug in
washer or reconnect power. If the issue is still not resolved then you would
need to replace the drain pump. Hope this helps...please post
back for further assistance.
