I have a DL380 G7 and have set my BIOS password; but if I enter an INVALID password I'm still allowed in.

For future reference, the BIOS is acting just as it should. HP designed it so that you could view the contents of the RBSU but not make changes w/out a password. The laptops (when they were one company) function the same way.

There is a small dip switch on the board. It may be set to disable. Location should be indicated inside case cover. If not download HP product bulletin.

my switches are in the off (enabled) position. If I put correct password it will take it and let me in; but if I enter invalid password I'm still allowed in after 2 tries; but view is read only. I'm not sure if this is the way it's configured to work.

  • Anonymous Feb 06, 2013

Don't recall. Its been a while, but read only will do. You are just trying to lock it down? Right? Should not effect anything.

My MECER xpression notebook laptop is showing a bios password and it doesn't allow me to press

It sounds like your MECER xpression notebook laptop is displaying a BIOS password prompt and you are unable to enter anything after entering the wrong password three times. You can try the following steps to resolve the issue:

  1. Try to remember the password you previously set for the BIOS. If you are unable to remember it, you may need to reset the BIOS password.
  2. To reset the BIOS password, you can try removing the CMOS battery from your laptop's motherboard for a few minutes and then reinserting it. This will reset the BIOS settings to their default values and remove any passwords.
  3. If removing the CMOS battery does not work, you can try using a BIOS password reset tool or contacting the manufacturer for assistance.
It's important to note that resetting the BIOS password may cause your laptop to lose some custom settings or configurations, so you may need to set them up again after resetting the password.

Hi i have hp proliant dl380 g6 server, i want to install new operating system but my keyboard external and internal both also not working.

the HP manual covers all this.
and it does not run W10
it runs SERVER OS, only,
what is an internal keyboard, wow, my DL 380 g7 has no such thing
the keyboard only works at the correct USB port
and monitor jack too front, side by side.
the BIOS has its own commands, in the manual
the RAID must be set up first or there is no place to put the OS
I run w2007 server OS, there, and SSD boot driver
and 7 disks array. for data.
the manuals are free at HPE, web site. for sure G7 and older.
it has specific steps, not seen on desktops ever.

I cant reset my laptop password from bios is showing me invalid possword

That's because the password entered must be what the owner set it to be. BIOS passwords are used to prevent a thief from accessing and changing the BIOS settings.

Need to reset bios password on Daytona-a rev 3.3 mboard

Enter the BIOS at power on, rather than booting windows, and go through the settings. Put in your old password and enter a new one as prompted on the screen.
If you bought this used, and there is a password from a previous owner, you can go to the system board and remove the small jumper that maintains the password lock for the BIOS. This should allow you access to the BIOS if you're locked out by a previous owner's password.

I have lost the bios password... any body help me to recover without opening case

This is a tricky one because the BIOS password is made to be the hardest password on a computer to break. Some manufacturers allow you to enter BIOS without the BIOS password but most do not. Here are some troubleshooting methods starting with the easiest and moving on to the hardest.

To enter BIOS hit the F2 key repeatedly as the computer boots up. You should enter BIOS after the first loading screen. If this does not send you into BIOS, try the ESC, DEL, and F1 keys. Once in BIOS find where you can set the password and reset it or enter a blank password as your new password.

If you can't access BIOS or are prompted for a password once you enter BIOS, try the following methods to flush the BIOS password cache:
1. Contact your manufacturer's support and ask if they have a backdoor BIOS password that they will allow you to use. This works to allow you to enter that password instead of your own and easily fixes the whole problem, but not all companies will tell you their password. You can also do a google search for your manufacturer's backdoor BIOS password since many of them have been discovered.
2. Send your laptop to your manufacturer to have them reset the password manually, although this takes an undisclosed amount of time and they will often make you pay a fee if you are not under warranty.
3. If you don't want to pay your manufacturer, open your laptop and locate the motherboard. On the motherboard there is a CMOS battery, if you don't know where this is use your PC manual. Remove the CMOS battery for an hour and then place it back on the motherboard. This should reset the password. After this turn on your computer and enter BIOS. This will reset all your BIOS settings so it may take a few minutes to open. After it is open, just exit BIOS and everything should be working properly. Just be very careful when opening the laptop and handling the CMOS battery because you can severely damage your laptop if you don't handle it properly.

Thanks for using FixYa and good luck!

How do i reset the bios password for my lenovo a310?

User passwords:
Power on
BIOS execution can be controlled by a Power On Password. This password is set in the BIOS Configuration screen, accessed by pressing the F1 key after pressing the power on switch to turn on the PC. If the person at the keyboard does not know the Power On Password, then BIOS execution halts.

Hard drive
The hard drive is controlled by the Hard Drive Password. After the Power On Password is entered, the person at the keyboard must be able to enter the Hard Drive Password, otherwise the disk drive will not spin up for use. Like the Power On Password, the Hard Drive Password is set in the BIOS configuration screen.

Administrative passwords:
Each of the two user passwords can be controlled by a Master or administrative password. If the administrative password is not set, then anyone who knows the user password can change it in the BIOS configuration screen. If the administration password is set, then it is impossible to reset the user password unless you know the administrative password. The Supervisor Password is the administrative password for the Power On Password. The Master Hard Drive Password controls the Hard Drive Password.

Password Recovery is a feature of Client Security Solution 6.0. This makes it possible for an end user to recover from the problem of "I forgot my Power On Password or Hard Drive Password."
