Hi Kelly,
The best way to program any scanner is manually, rather than via software. Those things are fine if you know what you're doing, but it takes the fun out of learning how to use your scanner your way.
Downloading a frequency list for your location is as easy as searching the web by typing scanner frequencies for {you location}
Programming your scanner with only the frequencies you want from a list of local frequencies is better than filling it with frequencies you really wouldn't listen to anyway.
The Pro 97 is a relatively easy unit to program manually using the keypad.
Plus, you can download a copy of the user manual from the Radioshack web site or go instore and ask foe a copy for a very small fee(if at all), it will guide you through the steps of programming in a very east to understand way.
Highly recommended, and the return in scanning the airwaves is the best result.
I hope I have been of assistance to you.
Cheers,
Peter

Your scanner has somehow gotten out of alignment, and there's no way to fix it with just a screwdriver. Your best bet for repair is your local Radio Shack. If they can't do the repair they should be able to refer you to a local, or they can ship it off for alignment.
