Entering BIOS settings, Easy-Access, after POP, with external KB
Currently using an external KeyBoard connected via a Y-cable into the external mouse PS2 port. [Keyboard connector on laptop is non--functional]. Currently the unit is configured for a POP, but has been 'blanked', via POP password pads, needing just a Return at the Lock icon prompt. Need to enter into the BIOS settings to set time and date, and remove POP. According to the manual, need to press and hold the F1 key during power-up until the Easy-Access screen menu appears. If there is a POP then it will appear after the password is entered. Can you help me with clarification of the sequence, have tried several possible sequences and none of them bring me into the BIOS Easy-Access, rather to an error page. Firstly tried pressing the F1 key down, holding through the power-up check sequence of the computer [BIOS presumably], until the Lock icon prompt appeared. Then pressed the Enter key. Resulted in the error screen. Secondly tried pressing the F1 key immediately after the Enter key was pressed [to complete the 'blank password'] and holding it until it would bring up a menu selection screen [getting the error screen], or alternatively, began pressing and holding the F1 key down from before pressing the Enter key. Both resulted in the same error screen as in above, Thirdly tried pressing the F1 key before power on, holding it down all the way through the power up check sequence, pressing the Enter key after the Lock icon prompt, and until the screen shows the green rectangle, but results aslo in the same error page. What is wrong with these sequence of steps? What is wrong that it does not bring up the Easy-Access configuration menu page? Does using an external keyboard affect this? [have tested that the F1 key works connected to another computer with the same Y-cable] Could the error 8611 of the TrackPoint, being it is disconnected cause a problem? Remember having connected an external mouse, and still having this error too? Would any other errors prevent access to the BIOS Easy-Access menu? Thank You

The Power On Password problem is near impossible to crack. It is designed to prevent unauthorized access to the Thinkpad and removing the BIOS battery will not remove the password because the password is stored on an EEPROM chip.
There are no backdoor passwords available, the only option is to ask the person who set the password.
OR
There is a way to hack into the Thinkpad to see and remove the password but it requires electronic skills, a program and a working computer.

I assume you have a laptop since KB and MOUSE are usually auto enabled by the BIOS on PCs at boot time and by OS after boot. You should be able to re-enable EXTERNAL KB & M in the BIOS (press DEL or F1 usually on power up) look for "enable legacy keyboard & mouse" in the menu system.
I have had exactly the same problem with most laptops I have used in the last 5 years, Compaq, Dell and HP.
what is happening is simple. as you are typing you are inadvertantly skimming the touchpad or the cursor buttons with the base of your thumb - well thats what I was doing - and moving the cursor.
I got an external keyboard & mouse - worked for me!
if there is a setting in the BIOS that enables you to turn OFF the touchpad and / or keyboard cursor buttons when an external KB / MOUSE is connected then enable it otherwise your problem will still continue.
Unfortunately, if youre using the laptop away from base, or there isnt such an option in the bios you basically just have to be more careful!
It sounds like your KB has bit the dust. there are little plastic clips under keys that can go bad and brake easy. replacing the KB is easy three screws that usually hold it in place. sometimes you do have to take the bezel off that is above it.
Try testing your notebook keyboard by connecting an external keyboard via USB cable. If external keyboard works properly then you need to confirm that there is some issue with your notebook keyboard... If u observe that their is some isssue with notebook keyboard,, get reepaired by nearest local delealer
Often times this happens when using a USB keyboard / Mouse.
Or when using a USB keyboard through a PS/2 Converter.
Try using a PS/2 Keyboard if available (Small Round connector with a small amount of pins, similar to a S-Video connector.)
Also. Access your BIOS settings and assure that you have Legacy USB keyboard support. Depending on your computer the BIOS / Setup Menu / Options Menu/ Etc. can be accessed by pressing the following key during boot: F1 F2 ESC DEL F12

Yes, you can establish your serial port in BIOS With the use of USB ports on computers the serial and com ports are not set up many times. Upon start up and before the windows login screen will see which key to hit to get into BIOS. It is usually an F# key. Once inside BIOS look for ports and toggle until the serial port is showing up. That will establish your serial port.
Don't forget to rate this solution before logging off.
if i were you, i would go into the bios when the machine is booting up, by pressing usually f2 or delete on the first black screen and setting all defaults in the bios, save it, then see if your mouse works.It may be that the bios is corrupt or misconfigured and that is why the integral mouse does not work.
