SOURCE: got a HDS 5 and im getting bad or false on my sonar when traveling showing fish and structure. When trying to hold ground and im backing up it doesn't even read?i have it on auto sensitivity

Check the mounting and cable connection of the transducer on the stern. If loose will tilt during movement, in reverse wakes from the prop. CAREFULLY check unit during these conditions. The transducer needs to be completely submerged. Good Luck.

Why don't I see fish on my lowrance elite5 hdi fish locator

Sounds like you do not have your transducer connected.
You will know it is working if you have a bottom sounding. If you have a bottom sounding (depth reading) and it is correct then you may have to fine tune the finder to see the fish.
I have the same finder on my boat. http://njsaltfish.com/index.php/captainsfocus?sid=61

How do i find water depth

Water depth should show automatically on your sonar page.
if it does not then either you have selected "stop sonar" under your sonar options or you have opted to turn off the depth displayou so the numbers don't show up.
if you areally viewing your GPS or split screen sonar/GPS page, sometimes the depth display is not visible on these pages unless you specifically instruct the unit to display it.

Here is a link to Lowrance where you can download a pic version of the operators manual.
Go to page 11 "overlay data" this will give you a step by step of how to add data or readouts to different screens.

How to use the floats

Add the floaters to your bait sac to lift off the bottom away from weeds, rocks, and snags and raise bait sacs to fish feeding levels. Replace approximately 25% of bait with floaters.

How to make fishing rigs

Every fish as some thing that works best. We fished silvers off the jetty at Reeds port Or (got to Google earth it) wit a half pound lead ball first then a herring double hook rig and a big cork float to keep the crabs from getting it all. It cast on a big open face spinning reel with 8 foot rod.

Some fresh water trout were so over fished and smart. the only thing that worked was a long shank hook wit 7 or 8 sing hooked worms 3# leader and 2 loose worms on the bait ball. Those would float free and entice the young ones, but the big old boy would wait and then get the big bait ball.

SO --- it aint just fishing.

Howtoseyupaspincastingreel

use 10# test line or heavier. use 3\8 oz lure or heavier. set magnetic control to "5". tighten small silver knob under the reel handle down until the spool will not turn when you push the thumb bar. loosen the same silver knob while you have the thumb bar pushed and adjust the knob tension so that the spool stops turning when the bait hits the ground. this is basic tuning for any baitcasting reel.

I need directions on how to reel in a fish

The key is to watch the "fish mood"... watch for a "Yellow Heart" on the top of the screen as you reel in, this means a fish is lured by your bait... When you see this, stop reeling with the "A" button and begin using the control pad... up or down will just bounce the bait... it's a little counter-intuitive to "real" fishing, but if you stop reeling when you see this "Yellow Heart" and simply wait for the fish to swim around your bait, then bounce the bait with the up or down control buttons, the fish will usually take the bait. Then simply reel them in being careful not to reel too fast... using the "A" button, don't let the meter go to high or too low... simply let off the "A" button if the meter gets to high or low... eventually you'll be able to reel them in by pressing and releasing the "A" button. Likewise with the "yellow heart", also watch for a "red exclamation", this indicates the fish is trying to bite the bait. Use the same method simply waiting for the fish. If you never see either of the two fish moods (yellow heart or red exclamation), then you'll need to either change direction of your throws, or change bait. I've conquered a few levels with this method after many hours of not even a bite.

On pft for the ds, how do you actually CATCH the

It took me a while to figure this game out. I didn't even hook a fish for 2 days (about 4 hrs). Simply reeling in the line while glimpses of fish swam by wasn't my idea of a good fishing game. I looked for any reviews that gave me a clue how to play this game. There were NONE. I finally figured out on my own a basic strategy that seems to be working for me. Initially you can only fish in one location, one lake. And the object is to get a total catch of 5 lbs of bass or more. You can see this on the initial screen (it gives you your goal to get to the next level). I've conquered a few levels with this method after many hours of not even a bite. It's a shame this game doesn't give you any of these hints. And even with the catches, the game is still quite lame. Graphics stink, realism is non-existent, and the game is counter-intuitive and though not quite as boring once you start to catch fish, it's still just a bit more exciting than watching paint dry. Hope this helps someone out there that was as lost as I was, and please, do yourself a favor if you haven't bought this game yet... don't.
