Epson 4800 won't initialize after changing black cartridge

We replaced some of the ink cartridges in an Epson Pro 4800. All detected and show full except for the new black. The pritner detects the cartridge being inserted, but then after thinking about if for a 15-20 seconds tells us to install new ink cartridge. Tried a few full and used cartridges and all produce the same message.

Help much appreciated.

Thanks.

Greg

Did you change from matte black to photo black? Or vice versa? If so you have to use the ink conversion kit that came with your printer and draw out the old ink and install the new black in cartridge. Try page 113 in your owners manual. I am having a similar problem but with the light cyan and it says "set ink cartridge".

Ink cartridge cannot be recognized

Are the cartridges you are using remanufactured? Some printers are very picky about this and will only work with manufacturer cartridges. What brand of printer?

    Epson 4800 bad quality printing

Did you use Epson Genuine Cartridges? I have an epson 4800.

ALL…. Epson & Brother Requires Genuine Epson Cartridges. !!!!!!!!
    That sounds like your problem.

In Purchasing Epson's CX 5400, CX4600, & CX7400 and more, I found out that Epson does not like Generic Printer Cartridges. I also Purchased a Brother. That also does not like Generic Print Cartridges. Color that should be Yellow, will turn out Green, Blue Brown, etc.

These printers have a CHIP that will detect if it is Generic or Genuine. When they see it’s Generic Cartridges, it will print lines thru the words, stripes across the picture and also do a mix match with the colors. It also will not let you print anything, if only one of the cartridges is empty.

I wanted to print only Black, and would not let me, because I did not have any ink in one of my cyan cartridges. Go figure.

That's what these Companies do., so they can keep selling the ink cartridges. Some Printers, are able to use Generic, and some are refillable. Some you can refill them up yourself and I heard, quite MESSY.

So I learned, thru trial and error, that you must use the ORIGINAL Genuine Cartridges for these PRINTERS. Some people say some models work fine compatible, but not mine.......

I had to replace the printer, but Epson, Lexmark & Brothers are always on sale. My Brother & Epson cost me $50.00 with Rebate. .

This is the only advice I can give you. If you find this helpful, pls rate me.

    Thanks and Good Luck :0)

    Epson 4800 clogged

I've had similar fun(?) with my Epson. The best solution that I've found is getting by a drafting (or crafts) supply store and getting a jar of Rapiograph, Koohinor, or drafting pen cleaner. With any kind of luck all you'll need to do is 'flood' the print head a bit (let the solution pool around the cartridge intakes), and set a few minutes, then do the Nozzle check.

The next step if that doesn't get it, is to get an old 'empty' cartridge, add a teaspoon or so to the cartridge, then insert as usual- be quick, as the ink inside has been greatly diluted!

Cycle the printer off & on several times allowing 3-5 minutes between the first & second cycles. What happens during cycling is the printer 'charges' then 'empties' the internal ink tubes; the solution is drawn back and forth, washing out the tubes and jets.

Make sure that your cartridges are 20+% full when using them to print. Epson was one of the bad guys that showed empty ink supplies when they were still full.

    Hope this helps.
