Cobra 200GTL: Clarifier affects TX

Hi,
I recently got a Cobra 200GTL DX with a strange clarifier function that I do not like. The clarifier adjusts both the RX / TX which makes SSB difficult to handle.
Some concider this useful? but I find it strange and would like the TX freq unaffected while "clarifying" incomming signals.
Hope to find some hints about "locking" the TX freq.

Best regards

Bosse Bergstrom. Sweden

Unfortunately, most people look to unlock the clarifier in radio's it is locked in.

From what I understand it is possible to lock it in that radio, however I do not know it because I usually unlock it in my radio's.

I also did a search, and asked a few people I know who are also very good with radio's and they do not know either. The only thing I found was this, and you have to pay this shop to do it.

Frequency counter displays two digets high from hump on fine clarifier adjestment on usb.27.186 insted of 27.185. also in am mode shows dead on with clarifer hump until mic is keyed thin dropes from 27.185...

Turn that fine clarifier a 1/4 turn or so to the right. I own a Galaxy DX99V and sometimes if that clarifier is just right it will drop down a hundredth of a MHz just like that when the mic is keyed. Your radio is just fine. Just adjust that clarifier a tad. The Galaxy DX99V is one of the best radios out there. I love them. -73-

New radio, TX/RX freq. off 7khz and clarifier non functionable

under warranty that would be cover no charge.! send it in.. The clarifier on a factory radio will only adjust the RX.. not the TX.. unless there's a "course and fine." the course would do both. the fine would be rx only

Symptom:Buzzing or motorboating sound in either the transmit or receive.
Problem: TR602 is oscillating
Cure: Replace C602 with a .01uF cap {Cap is located in the power supply board}.
RG 66,99,DX2517 Replace Q54 2SB754 60watt 7A with a higher power 2SB817 100 Watt 12A. Derating of this component will cool operation, provide better voltage stability, decrease wobble, allow voltage increase to 14.5 volts comfortably. (replace 10 volt caps in this section of the radio to a minimum of 16 volts before increasing supply voltage to this level)and provide faster swing rise time, Replace Q37 2SA473 to a 2SA1012-0 or ECG153 this will improve the clarity and volume of the modulation and it will also run a lot cooler.

5W pondmaster UV clarifier, how to tell if it's working

Hi,
You can tell if the UV light is on by feeling the case surrounding the light. If it's warm the light is on.
Hope that helps,

Cobra 200 gtl dx clarifier clip

Egor, hi. I'm sure there is a mod probably only known by the repair centers. I have converted and tuned the 200, but in case you don't know, the radio is full of surface mount components. They look like specks of pepper to the naked eye, and so it takes a tech with years of soldering experience to do any modding without destroying what their working on. Those radios are not a friendly radio for experimenting. I looked thru my papers that Cobra tech support sent me for converting, tuning, and other misc. mods but that info was not included. It is a nice radio when set up properly, so don't mess it up by experimenting.(just my opinion) Hope this helps,,and good luck, Mechanic

Talkback on a cobra 200 gtl dx

This procedure is not as simple as just cutting a wire. Note that you can possibly mess your radio up if any maintenace is not done properly. I do suggest taking your radio to a proffesional to have the talkback removed, but, if you really want to do it yourself, go to ghe following link and basically reverse what has been done.

http://www.cbtricks.com/radios/cobra/150gtl_dx/tsb/cobra_200gtl_dx_tsb_10041.pdf

This is the service bulletin for the addition of talkback to the Cobra 150GTL DX and the Cobra 200GTL DX.

As long as the talkback was added correctly, this can be put back origional.

If this does or does not help, please reply on here or email me at [email protected]. I look forward to hearing from you.
