Machine slows down, stops, starts again. Foot control problem?

As I am free sewing, the machine slows down in a few seconds, stops. I take my foot off the control and begin. It starts, slows down and stops. Is this a faulty foot control? My sewing machine is only approximately 5 years old, a Kenmore elite model # 385.19365991 according to my owner's manual. Foot Control model #YC-542. If I need to order a new foot control where can I go on-line? Thank you. Linda

Machine runs at one speed only regardless of foot control position, replaced foot control but did not fix the problem of a slow running machine. Sent machine out through a local fabric shop came back after cleaning, will run but will not stop unless you unplug the foot pedal or place the machine in reverse. Spoke with fabric shop they were told that the machine was to old to fix and charged $100.00 for diagnostic and cleaning.

Yes it does sound like a faulty foot control. The power cord is probably fine, you just need the controller. Ebay is a good source for parts.

Rotate the handwheel several turns. It should turn smoothly and evenly without binding or jams.

Could be the problem is inside the foot control/cable. Disconnect foot control and try using START/STOP and see if the resets stop.

I noted the following in the manual;
"Never operate the sewing machine with any air openings blocked. Keep ventilation openings of the sewing machine and foot controller free from the accumulation of lint, dust, and loose cloth."
I don't believe this is your problem but check it anyway.

If it still resets when using START/STOP, could be speed control electronics inside machine or even the motor itself.

I have a baby lock Esante EXE when sewing a straight stitch, i take my foot off the foot peddle but the machine will continue to sew about 5-8 stitches instead of stopping, any ideas why this happens?

Try to solate the problem to machine or foot control by detaching foot control and use stop/start. If stop after a start exhibits same as foot pedal then likely the problem is machine control board else, foot pedal. Could be foot control is sticking and not completely opening or slow to open.

Slow sewing regardless of speed setting

I'm thinking that the problem is in the foot control
take the foot control to a sewing machine repair shop and have it checked out
you say it appears aftermarket--probably is to replace a faulty OEM unit

Can you describe your problem a bit better.
From what you describing it sounds like the machine does start to embroider, it starts slow then it stops.
It is normal when you first start to embroider that the machine runs very slowley, does just a few stitches and stops. This is normal and all Berninas do this. The machine stops after these first few embroidery stitches so you can cut off the extra piece of thread. Cut off the extra thread then push the reversing button again and the machine should start to embroider. It will stop again if a color change is needed. This information is provided in your owners manual.
Make sure you have lowered the feed dogs for embroidery and there is no need to have the foot control attached for embroidery though it won't affect anything if it is attached to the machine...

Sewing machine stops sews a minute slows down or stops then starts up

I suggest having the machine checked at a sewing machine shop
to see if there is something wrong with the motor, or the foot pedal
but first check to make sure the power cord & foot pedal are
connected correctly

Foot pedal dead, machine keeps sewing!

There is no suppressor in the foot control of a 425. Only the control unit, which may need to be replaced. If the machine accelerates to full speed, it may have a problem with the "stop right" board which tells the machine whether to stop with the needle up.
You could have several problems, so go see a qualified Husqvarna repairman. You may contact Husqvarna customer service to locate the best one in your area.
