Refridgerator freezer/storage compartment is not getting cold

The storage and freezer are not getting cold, I have tried turning both sections up to no avail.
I have removed the panel that covers the freezer coil and I had to defrost ice around the right side of the coil. But the main part of this coil is not cool nor cold. Is it the coil heater or the Defrost timer or is it maybe low on refrigerant? Please help me . This unit is 5 years old only!

SOURCE: Fridge is warm, freezer is cold!

The defrost cycle is not happening like it should, that's what causes the block of ice (and poor air flow). If you have all that defrosted look at the defrost bi-metal, it usually is a small round disk with a couple wires coming out of it and it's clipped on the coils. When it's cold enough, it passes electricity to the heat elements, when it gets hot enough it "opens" and kills power to the heat elements. If that is bad (swollen cracked or bloated) and not passing electricity to the elements that's the problem. Another item would be the defrost timer itself, if it doesn't work (no clock motor turning) then it will never go into defrost. And the last and usually least expected failure would be the heat element themselves no working. Good job trouble shooting!

SOURCE: Freezer Icing Up

Try contacting the hotline again and ask them if the freezer has a frost sensor on it. If it does, the sensor is not kicking the thermostat to allow for the unit to defrost.

SOURCE: Zanussi Zx99/5SI fridge not chilling freezer Frozen over

Tell you what, first do a good 12 hour defrost and restart. Chances are you left the door ajar accidentally. (even though you say you never,) Most of the time there is the issue. If it continues after that, let me know and ill go through the defrost procedure (the cheap way)..

I have Mod. # RT21LMXKQ. There is only one thermostat control. How do I regulate the temperature in the refridgerator and freezer?

Walter,
Usually the thermostat control knob is in the refrigerator compartment, and the knob in the freezer controls how much cold air is moved past the damper down into the refrigerator area. All of you cooling is generated in the freezer section and the fan forces is downward. Your thermostat usually has a bulb that senses the temperature that turns the compressor on and off. The factory settings are in the middle of the dial on both areas. Hope this helps!

Cold air only in freezer. no cold air in refridgerator section. the freezer is cold but not freezing.

This sounds like a classic case of defrost system failure, the coil in the freezer is iced up - freezer will run at 32 fridge around 55. turn off unit, get heat gun, manually defrost unit(be careful!). either your timer or defrost heater assembly has failed, if you de ice coil unit will work until you can get a service person to diagnose bad part and replace

Refrigerator side not cooling

The fresh food section is cooled by the freezer section by forced air supplied by a fan. If you have air flow, check the temp inside the freezer. It should be between 0 and -10. If not look inside your freezer and see if you have ice built up on the back panel. If so you have a defrost problem that is most likely a bad defrost heater, a bad termination thermostat or timer. If ther is no ice then check your fan under the refrig. If you can hear the compressor running it should be turning. If this all checks out then you have a freon system problem like. Low Freon pressure or a restriction.

Top refridgerator does not get cold but the bottom freezer works fine

Most of these have a fan that blows the cold air for the freezer into the refrigiator section. If the fan quits running you will experience your problem.

Refridgerator not cooling

I always look underneith the ice box to see if cobwebs and dust buildup is clogging the fins and condenser motor. Clean that up all nice and she might work a little better. Look for frost on the back of the freezer, that indicates a bad heater. Listen for the fan motor in the freezer section. If it quits the cold air cannot get into the fresh food section. Check the damper (if applicable) to see if it is opening and allowing cold air from the freezer to get to the fresh food compartment. Look for to many food items in the freezer section blocking the cold air. If she needed freon you would fell absolutely no heat on the conderser coils below the ice box. MORE
