I get a code 7 U in the VCR window and cannot tape programs

This is for a Panasonic PV-V4022 VHS VCR. There is a dash between the 7 and U on the top line.

I have the same problem -- the only work around I can find so far is to eject and then re-insert the VHS tape.

Serves me right for buying a VCR without a manual, I guess.

I'm betting on a dirty mode switch, a rotary switch operated by the gear system. Try spraying some electronic parts cleaner into it, the type that does not leave behind a lubricant (as tuner cleaner does).

I have a panasonic vcr. Model # pv-v4022

There is an SMPS unit that powers the set. You could have a failed driverr in this section. check out the input side for short in capacitors, bridge rectifier,SM driver or a mains protector. It will easy to identify by having a continuity tester for identifying the short. replace with the same type. good luck

Recording on a Panasonic VCR

This problem is undoubtably dirty or worn video heads. Try using a good quality head cleaning tape. If this fails, re-post, and I will explain how to clean heads by hand.
