Sounds like the 4x4 unit has not been used for a while. This is a common problem. If cleaning and reinstalling the electrical connectors dose not solve the problem then, try this procedure before replacing the control module.
I assume that the vehicle has a rotating knob on the left side of the dash for four wheel drive. It may have been put into 4 low by mistake. To get it out, start the vehicle and put it in drive, select 4 low on the 4 wheel drive selector, take your foot off the brake and get the vehicle rolling at a walking pace (1-2 m.p.h.) then move the selector to 4 high, stop the vehicle and move selector to 2 high.
Be sure to put the truck in neutral, while engine is running, while you disengage from 4 wheel drive (low) to 4 wheel drive (high) and then finally to 2 wheel drive. It is critical to shift transmission into neutral when switching out of 4WD Low, as indicated in your owner's manual. Hopefully, this will help to FixYa problem!
you have to put the main shifter from park into neutral.
then move the electronic switch from 4 low to 2 wd.or the "auto" setting.
then move the shifter into reverse and back up about 10 feet.
put it in drive . good luck with it.
No probably not, first check the fuse for the 4wd in the fuse box if that's OK its likely the actuator on the front axle..........providing the shifter handle moves to the proper location and if its push button the lights light in the switch when selected...the actuator plugs into the wiring harness and screws into the front differential.an easy remove and replace part even for a novice.
