These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. First thing, check the HDMI input and make sure it is firmly connected, same for the power cable, obviously. My Samsung goes similarly nuts if it detects no signal from the currently selected input but after 1-2 minutes it eventually stops and I can change the input source.

One of the circuit boards has a burnt connection. Look around each of the heat sinks to find the popped plastic circuit. You can also dismount the board and look on the bottom for a burnt mark. Check the number of blinks from the LED. That will tell you which board is bad.
