I changed ink cartdridges and when I turn on printer it acts like it normally does at the beginning but then both red & geen lights are flashing off and on and the printer will not do anything else. I can't even get it to print a test page.
I had the same problem. You need to reset the waste ink counter:
1. Turn printer off, unplug power cord. Disconnect computor interface cable (back of the printer).
2. After one minute, reattach power cord, but not the computor interface cable.
3 Hold down the LOAD/EJECT and CLEANING buttons simultaneously (cleaning button has ink drop on it) .
4 Turn printer on. Release all buttons as soon as the paper out light flashes.
5 Quickly press the cleaning button, and hold for 10 sec while paper out light flashes.
6 Release the button and the printer will initialize.
7. Once the initialization is complete, turn the printer off.
8. Reconnect the interface cable.
9. Turn the printer on and try to print your document.
This process worked for me. Good luck!
Acording to the epson repair person I brought my printer to he
thought that the waste ink pad was full and needed replacing
180.00. He then found out our paper counter had printed the
max number of pages and needed to be reset. Total cost 45.00
I brought him a 20.00 subway gift certificate.

My 1280 printer started doing the same thing the past Friday (Jan 30, 2009).
Very frustrating
When I turn on the printer, the red and green lights blink alternately. The computer tell sme to check communications, which are fine. Likewise, the INK monitor tells me I have neither black nor color, which must be related to the fact that it isn't communicating. There's no paper jam either. When I push the cartridge replacement button, nothing happens at all. It just remains in the ready position.
Is there a reset button or something else that is serviceable? The manual didn't help for anything.
If anyone can help, I'd really, really appreciate it.
Red and green light keep on flashing. I suspect that something need to be reset and have ordered a manual for Epson printers.
