Burner won't shut down

We have a landa dhw hot pressure washer.Kerosene fired burner, electric pump.It all works except for the burner not shutting down when the wand is released. There are 3 items related to this ; flow control valve, fuel shutdown solenoid, and a thermostatic switch on the high pressure side. The valve and solenoid appear to be working. Can anyone clarify the operational sequence involved with these 3 items? How would one test the thermo switch? Would it be normally open or closed? They are all connected electrically. Thanks Jake.

Hi, a hot machine normal works in the following way. 240volt circuit for the ignition Transformer (spark), Blow Motor (Air) & Fuel Pump (Fuel). Then you have the second circuit 24 Volt because this circuit has the switchs in it, thermostate hot on / off switch, then the flow switch or pressure switch and then fuel solnoid that opearates the fuel to the burner top. Alway better to have a 3 - 5 second delay on fuel solnoid so all components are running first before letting fuel into burner.

SOURCE: burner will not fire

Dear muttandjeff,
I do not know if you machine is single or three phase. But whatever, one simple thing is to check that you have the right rotation. If the rotation is good, then fuel can be pumped. Now there must be a sensor that switches on with water flow. No water....no fire. If there is water passing, then the sensor is stuck and showing that there is no flow. The thermostat also opens a solinoid valve in most machines of this type. If solinoid valve is faulty....fuel will not come out. If this is a diesel boiler...check gap of electrodes and condotion of fuel nozzel. One last thing, is something I found in a machine of a friend of mine. I found everything correct....but then I found that the fuel was totaly mixed with water. So, that you have correct fuel, is also important.
fulltech.

SOURCE: Had the Northstar 3000 psi Pressure Washer for 2

It is easy to check if your hose and quick connects are supplying enough water to the pump. Your pressure washer gallon per minuite requirements are printed on the machine and also on the pressure tips in GPM. Your post indicates 2.5 gpm but check your documentation of GPM. Next remove the tip from the wand and connect your hose with current quick connects to the machine. Start engine and direct the pressure wand into a bucket for exactly one minute. Measure the amount of water in the bucket, it should be very close to stated gallons. Do the same test with tip installed and compare measurement. If pump is starving for water you will not get proper amount of water in the bucket and the water hose will collapse. Two to four gallons of water per minute is not very demanding and should be delivered even with very small opening. You can even just direct the hose into the bucket for one minute and check how much water your hose is capable of delivering. I believe that you will find no problem with water delivery to pump. I would certainly enlighten Northern with your findings and question their evaluation. When you start using your pressure washer again try using it at lowest pressure to get the job done. Lowering the pressure to about 75% of max will increase the life of the pump and engine. Good luck with you pump

SOURCE: Pressure Washer Pump and Engine Stops Suddenly

The pump might be binding against the motor, causing the pump to overheat and temporarilly "seize up" and shut the engine off.
After cooling down for a brief period (5~10 mins) the engine can usually be re-started, but the overheating problem will keep coming back.

This happens when the pump either wasn't seated against the engine properly during it's initial instalation, or the pump housing wasn't machined properly and the PTO shaft is trying to drive the pump at a slight angle = excessive friction = overheating.

Try this:
1) Loosen the bolts that mount the pump to the engine just enough so that the pump can be wiggled slightly.
2) With the engine power switch in the "OFF" position, slowly pull the recoil starter rope so that the engine / pump completes about two revolutions. This helps to align the pump surface with the engine.
3) Lightly snug the pump mounting bolts in a criss-cross pattern, then slowly pull the recoil starter rope again to ensure that the pump isn't binding.
4) Finish tightening the pump mounting bolts in the criss-cross pattern (approx. 21 foot pounds torque).

The entire process should take you roughly about 10 mins from start to finish.

If this doesn't remedy your problem, then try running the engine for 20 mins with the pump COMPLETELY removed so as to isolate the components.

SOURCE: Northstar PW shuts off hot if washer is moved. Honda engine

Being petrol driven, it may have a mercury kill switch which puts a ground on the ignition circuit stopping the engine if you move it. Perhaps for safety in case you overturn the unit somehow.

Why is my landa hot water pressure washer tripping it's GFCI cord every 1-3 minutes after the burner turns on?

There could be a few reasons why your hot water pressure washer is tripping the GFCI cord after the burner turns on. One possibility is that there could be a fault in the electrical system of your pressure washer, which is causing a power surge that is triggering the GFCI. Another possibility is that there could be a short circuit in one of the components of the burner, such as the ignition module or the solenoid valve, which is causing the GFCI to trip. You may want to consider having a qualified technician inspect your pressure washer to diagnose and address the issue.

Landa MVP3-3000 burner not firing good fuel pressure but no spark.

This appears to be a Pressure Washer, so moved it from Washing Machines.

If you have no spark, then the switch, the coil or the ignition system is faulty. If it is just the burner heater, then the spark lighter is faulty. This suggests that your battery needs charging with a battery charger to bring it up to full power.

The 12 VDC burner systems can draw as much as 18
amps! For such motors to run properly, the battery and
engine charging system must be kept in good condi-
tion, and the engine must run fast enough to adequately
charge the battery. Do not throttle down the engine for
any length of time.

My hot water is not working i have power to relay that is new but it will not send power to my on off switch

Hello,

I am a little confused by your question because a PG is a cold water pressure washer. In most mobile hot water machines there will not be a relay. My best guess is that you are talking about a GFCI that is not sending voltage to the On/Off/Burner cam switch. To check this you will need to verify that voltage is actually passing through the GFI. If you can clarify with a model and serial for your machine, I will be able to give you better trouble shooting instructions.

I have a Landa 4-3500 from my diesel exhaust everything seemed fine then black smoke started coming out then eventually it stopped turning off the burner, there is still diesel in the tank, any...

The issue with the black smoke could be a number of different things, the fuel filter could be bad, the air to fuel ratio on the burner system could be off and needs to be adjusting, this is difficult to do if you have never worked on a system like this before.

The issue with the burner not turning off would have to do with the pressure switch, flow switch or the thermostat. With a pressure washer like this the power in the electrical system will run through these different items and either say light or don't light. More than likely if your burner is staying on though it is going to be the flow switch that is sticking, I am not the most formular with the system that they have on this machine but that is the first thing I would check.

I have A LANDA PRESSURE WASHER (ZG3-2000) Problem is lack of pressure.

Because the ZG series uses a bolt on unloader it is a little difficult to properly test your machine. What you will need to do is completely remove the unloader valve and then hook your garden hose directly to the inlet of the pump (the 1/2" port on the bottom of the head). You then need to hook your high pressure hose to the outlet port (the 3/8" port on the top of the head). What you have done is bypassed the safety relief valve on the pump. Now you need to tie open the trigger on your trigger gun so that it can not shut. If it shuts while the machine is running you will damage your pump. Now fire up the machine. Let it run for a few seconds then shut it off.

If you had full pressure during this test you have a failed unloader valve and will need to replace it. If you did not your problem lies inside the pump and you will need to rebuild it. On a ZG you can expect the unloader to cost around $100 and the pump rebuild parts to be around $150. If you need further assistance or parts please feel free to contact me using the information below.

I have an older Landa Pressure Washer. The burner is not working. Once I get the machine running and water flowing to the pressure washer, with the wand pressed, I flip the burner on switch....and...

Check for 12V at the igniter connector with the unit running. If you have 12V and no igniter it may be stuck or bad. Thrun the unit off and read continuity across the DISCONNECTED igniter plug / terminals to the igniter. No resistance = open igniter.

If all of the above checks out your going to have to look at the fuel pressure switch to see if it closes and passes 12V to the igniter.

Before you give up... Check the fuse.

Landa's website is www.landa.com
You will have to select a local dealer for parts.

Thanks for using FixYa!

Torpedo Reedy heater 150,000 BTU starts & fires but after 2-3 minutes of heating , it shuts down, after it is off for about 3 minutes it will start & fires but then shuts down , each time it shuts...

There is a flame sensor inside the burner unit. The sensor is like a photo cell that must see the light of the flame or it will tell the burner control to stop the power. You need to see if there is a soot film on the lense of the sensor and make sure the sensor is aimed straight. If the sensor is clean and aimed straight (and the problem persists) then there may be a clogged nozzle that is giving a poor flame and the sensor does not see a good flame therefore shuts down the unit. If the nozzle is at fault, then you for sure need to replace the oil filter. New nozzles are $4-8 and the size & spray angle is stamped on the nozzle. If there is still a problem, then you need to see if the pump is giving approx. 100psi pressure, then finally (the last step) would be to replace the burner control $60. Goodluck< Macgivor

We have a Landa with a diesel burner. The problem

There is a screen in the tip of the spray nozzle for the diesel. Remove the tip and clean the screen. Your getting a explosion because diesel is pooling in the coils and igniting when conditions are right (air/fuel mixture). There is also a screen in the diesel pump. Remove the pump and clean it also. When you split the pump the screen sits between the two halves. Hope this will help.
